No, but some people seem to be convinced that for every record a band sells their music's quality deteriorates because its no longer underground and therefore no longer Tr00.

Most people have no idea what selling-out means. Just Beacause a band get's popular or change's thier style dosn't mean they are sellouts. A "sellout" band would be a band that changes thier style to get commercial success. Considering that this album sounds nothing like Evenesece, Slipknot or old Trivium, it's is safe to say this is not a sellout.

I concur, people throw around the term "sellout" far too much with seemingly no idea as to what it really means.

There is no way in hell Opeth are sellouts. Ghost Of Perdition is as good as, if not better than, most of their older work.

I think the addition of the new lad on keys has added a new element to the Opeth sound. Cos he wasn't an official member until this album right? or was it deliverance?

Per (keys guy) wasn't part of the band at all until they wrote Ghost Reveries. All of the effects and ambience of the past albums was added by their producer using studio equipment.

Many Opeth albums are tied for my favorites. Ghost Reveries, Orchid, Blackwater Park, and Damnation are all tied for #1. I'm a minority though - many Opeth fans don't like it near as much as their older stuff (Blackwater Park and Still Life especially), but I love GR to death.

Blackwater Park and The Drapery Falls are two of my favourite songs by Opeth.

Sometimes I wonder if opeth knows what an acceptable song length is, because sometimes it work really well by making it 10 minutes, but other times it just drags and drags...

The Grand Conjuration is in my top 5 for Opeth songs by the way. This Message Edited On 02.03.07

I really dislike The Grand Conjuration, for some reason it's just not very 'Opeth' to me. Ghost Of Perdition is pretty much perfect though.

Grand Conjuration kicks ass...i LOVE the dynamics of that song from the verse to chorusy bit...and when the intro is revisited with that groove near the end of the song...effing gold!

The only Opeth album that ever dragged on too long was Deliverance, IMO.

And I'm also surprised why so many people could hate this album. It ranks up there with Blackwater Park, though I'd say Blackwater Park is slightly better. And Ghost of Perdition is the greatest Opeth song to date. It's literally perfect in every way. The ending is absolutely epic. This Message Edited On 02.17.07

I am a very late bloomer, and I only got into Opeth in 2006.

Ghost Of Perdition was my first Opeth song and it got me hooked.

I then proceeded to download ALL of Opeth's songs over the next six hours.

OMFG I love them

And this is my second favourite album of their's, after Morningrise.

Absolutely brilliant.
