Great album. Easily their best. Strong 4, higher if it weren't for Tommy's (shitty) harsh vocals. Wish they had a guy like Akerfeldt fronting. :D

You'd think, though, that with all of their success since Colors, they could afford to work with a better producer. Jamie King isn't terrible but it could definitely be improved on. Oh well there's always the next record!

Haha, Akerfeldt in this band would be a damn dream. Tommy is pretty annoying.

It is not a matter of affordability. Their budget for this record was substantially larger than what Jamie's rates are. They go with Jamie because they have all known him for a very long time and the band is more than happy with how he produces them. It is 100% their own personal preference.

"

After reading this review i have lost a lot of respect for this website. Up until now i use to tell my friends "Hey, Sputnik is awesome for unbiased music reviews." Now i can no longer say that as i found the author Tyler Munro crass and flippant. The constant use of profanity to justify your claims is appalling! Such phrases as, "pretty fucking good," "way too fucking long" and "totally fucking pointless" to name only a few among many. This is pathetic! What makes this even more ignorant, and straight out rude, is you decided to consult a thesaurus during your whole article making it wordy and muddled: "masturbatory," "cacophonous," and "superfluous." Half the Fanboys and Haters on this site probably had to look those words up. You cannot have it both ways sir; Swearing like an inner-city kid and speaking in a lofty tone. The saddest this thing of all is most people with their warped sense of forum logic will have already quoted "TLDR"

Gotta love fanboys, right?

Fuck no.

This is one fantastic review, Tyler. Not only is it a good review, but its objective, which is what a review should be. The album is a 4 and nothing more. I can't say i agree with you opinion on Swim to the Moon, but i can see where the jam session effect comes into play and how the song might be perceived as pretentious. It's a very solid effort from BTBAM, but it can never rival The Silent Circus due to how it solidified the sound that we now know as BTBAM and how the progressive elements work well together with a more death sound. TSC is also extremely focused in the direction of its sound, which you just can't find on any of BTBAM's newer albums. Great review, once again Tyler, and i look forward to reading more of your reviews.

I personally think Cloud Mountain is the weakest track in the album, feels too long in the middle. The beginning and end make it worth while though.

Swim to the Moon when listening to it actually seems shorter than Cloud Mountain to me.

Disease, Injury, Madness FTW

Despite the total wankfest on Swim to the Moon, it's growing on me fast. I think it might become my favorite, if Disease, Injury, Madness somehow fades on me.

I do not understand the fuss about long songs. 18 minutes out of 1440 in a day is really too long for you to sit down and listen to a song? really?? Your attention span is that horrible? And guess what everyone? They are a PROGRESSIVE band. Meaning when you listen to them you're going to have a different experience then you would with a cut-n-pate 3min song you here on the radio. I understand that progressive music is not for everyone but it shouldn't be reviewed by people who don't understand it.

No, not just because of that. All the contradictions in the review are nauseating...This section is really well done but it's fucking stupid. What the hell does that even mean?? Also, Most of the review is spent comparing to past albums and songs and why it was "shitty"or "fucking stupid". Very little time is actually spent talking about the music that was created which is what the artist deserves. The Great Misdirect is now and everything else is in the past. Please focus on the music that is at hand instead of telling us why you thought something else was better. I did not read the review to get you opinion on other albums. Don't get me wrong though, I still very much like the past albums and they should play a small role in a review but the main meat of a review should actually be the product that is supposed to be reviewed. And I will not gtfo
