They didn't flirt enough with metal on this one.
However it's a great album that could become excellent with time.

"Time Flies" is the best song Steve Wilson will ever write so I don't understand how everybody loves another one of his acoustic songs.
I could think of at least 15 songs better than that

I can't.

How is that song better than 'Drive The Hearse'? I usually agree with you, but you're just wrong man

I like Steven Wilson's more ambitious tracks where he gets all proggy. Plus, that acoustic intro with the sweet clean guitar lead just melts me everytime. "Drive the Hearse" still gets me too, just lacks the awesome song writing. And I'm not wrong, just difference of opinion my good friend.

Haha, I know bud, I was just kidding with you. I like that song too, but Drive The Hearse does it best for me. I like this album as a whole a lot more than In Absentia.

Every time I listen to Time Flies I think David Gilmour is playing the solo

This is so bland. One of the biggest disappointments of 09 for me

It has some gems but I somewhat agree. Still very good however and would most likely make my top 50 at the end of the year.

I agree somewhat with this album. Im noticing the influences you've mentioned a lot more now, but there's no doubt that Porcupine Tree still produces a unique sound theirselves.
I disagree in the "hit/stand out" song part. It may not seem so due to the fact that the songs are all intertwined together, but If you listen independently to The Blind House, Drawing the Line, The Incident, Time Flies, and Octane Twisted, any of those could be that song. They certainly stand out to me. But then again, I am a Porcupine Tree fan so I may be a biased opinion.
And you didn't mention any of the second disc! Still, nice review. Clearly thought out.

IMO, their second best album. Although, to be fair, i've only heard everything released from In Absentia onward. Yes, it seemed a little bland at first, but a lot of the songs on here are real growers. Although, Remember Me Lover (if you're counting it as THE album closer) is an extremely weak way to end this album.
