I'd give Youthanasia the edge as well, though Countdown is still in the top tier...

Im not really a Megadeth fan, I find its the same problem that I have with Metallica - the music they do is kinda repetitive and they dont really seem to be pushing themselves musically or technically.
That being said, I enjoy this way more than I enjoyed Rust in Peace. Its not a bad album really. It still has the same hallmarks of Megadeth that annoy, but if you can overlook that its not a bad listen at all.

Great album, best I have heard by them since 'Countdown to Extinction'

First Megadeth ive listened all the way through. I dont really like Dave's vocal style, its tolerable but not great imo. However the riffs and solos make this extremely fun to listen to.

So basically there's not enough wankery to either band for you. I find Megadeth's music quite wanky
(albeit awesomely so) for a popular 80's Thrash band.

I suppose so. I like the wank.
I should quanitfy that to say that I really enjoyed Crack the Skye (although more initially) and I dont consider that particularly wanky, but I guess as you said, its a slightly different genre.
But I wish Davo would not 'sing' like he is talking to a guy in a bar.

Great album. Absolutely fantastic! However, people are going absolutely crazy over Broderick. I think his addition to the band was great but he goes a little overboard with the solo's. Mustaine is rarely featured anywhere except for rhythm on this album. Hell, Broderick duals with himself (Please, don't try and tell me that's Mustaine playing like that)! It turns into "The Chris Broderick Show" after a while and, to me, it really can take a away from the album. Broderick is certainly impressive but he can never beat Friedman when it comes to sheer awesome. Friedman was good, not because he was a shredder, but because of his great understanding of the instrument and feeling that his solo's had. Broderick fails at bringing what Friedman brought to the table. Still, he's a fantastic guitarist and one of the best Megadeth has had, just not THE best.

Dave's vocals make this hard to get past a 3/5. Good musicianship on everyones part though.

musicianship takes it to a 3.5, vocals are tolerable enough.
