Yeah. It's still a great album though.

Yes, no doubt about that.

As a devout Floyd fan, if I had to choose just one of their albums to represent their whole body of work, this would be it. Dark Side of the Moon combines the abstract feel of their early work with the tight melodies found on The Wall and albums following it. There is not a single song on this album that I'd do without, even On the Run. I was hooked on DSOM, since the first time I heard it. I admit the thrill has faded over time, but there is still nothing as cool as hearing the beginning noises of Speak to Me, being awoken by the clocks in Time, and being carried away by Us and Them. I'd not only recomend this album to Floyd fans but also to anyone who'd like to get into progressive or just classic rock.

I'd recommend this album to anyone that loves music.

Well, it is an absolute essential to anyone regardless whether they like floyd or even rock music in general.

Because of its music or its ridiculous popularity?

The music of course! thats what it comes down to in the end doesnt it? I hate the fact that this album is overpalyed by the radio ect. I never really listen to this album anymore but its still nice to know its there if the need ever arises.

I don't find this cd very easy to get into at all. It took a really long time for it to grow on me. The weird breaks and whatnot used to bug me but now I like this quite a lot. The spacey breaks still get on my nerves sometimes.
The vocals solo on Great Gig In The Sky is awesome. Is that what that would be considered? This Message Edited On 12.10.06

Good review. I wish I could feel as positive as the reviewer. It just doesn't fit in to my tastes very well. On the flip side, the success of this album and the devotion of its fans says quite a bit about the stature of this LP.
Also while reading here, I finally realize I am not alone in thinking PF has much finer work in their repertoire. For the longest time, I thought I was.

Genius album, genius review. I personally am with the majority here, because it is my honest opinion that this is one of the best rock albums of all time, satisfying from start to finish (and no, I don't think the beginning is weak, in fact nothing's weak on this album). But I guess it's better if the reviewer isn't a major fan of the album he's reviewing, cos that can quickly turn into a fanboyish ode (tons of examples on this very site).

But if it's also a cd they don't like it can turn into a rant about how the band sucks.

I think rants are far more entertaining than stupid "OMG this band is the greatest band of all time and this album is a timeless masterpiece" kind of crap. But that's just me.

My favorite is Us And Them with Breathe at a close second.

I like every track, which is great because they all tie together. I might be in the minority here but I personally think that the second half of the album is superior to the first half. From Us and Them on the music just gets so spacey and trippy, it's a great experience.
