I'm not sure how listening to 100 different indie bands makes you knowledgeable on music.
I've listened to grunge (Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana) metal from several decades (including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the like), punk (like The Sex Pistols, Ramones, and The Clash).
I've listened to most major classic rock bands. AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, you know the ones. Not extensively, but more than a couple songs. I've also heard a couple Hendrix songs, not many. Can't forget a couple more modern rock bands like Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys. I've listened to almost a full album from them, not quite.
I'm not saying I know a lot about music, I definitely could listen to some more, and I have more bands to discover, but I am NOT ignorant as far as music goes. I like what I like, sorry if that doesn't fit in with your opinion.

What you like is up to you. but i wouldnt reccomend getting into an argument about an album that you rate twice as highly as the average person on a music site like this when you arent gonna be able to back youself up with anything better than repeatedly stating that you like itThis Message Edited On 05.16.09

Metal has been around since the 60s. That's almost 50 years.

It doesn't make you knowledgeable about music but it sure as heck makes you knowledgeable about that one particular spectrum of music, much in the same way that you listening to every band you listed makes you somewhat knowledgeable about that one limited spectrum...It's cool to like that stuff but I just don't see how anybody could be possibly be content to listen one particular genre/groups of samey genres over and over again...This Message Edited On 05.16.09

argument got DEEP guys

No, no, no. The argument is that I like the album, and that makes me WRONG. I never once told everyone else that it was one of the best albums ever, I just said that I really enjoy it, and it's a favorite of mine.
Is this even an argument? Has it gotten to that point? Seems like a bunch of bullshit to me.This Message Edited On 05.16.09

One question, is this Green day's best album? (directed at Alex445)

There is a conflict here and there are reasonings (albeit poor in some cases) for and against the point of interest, so yes it is an argument of sorts.

Well, that depends. Like I said earlier, I would consider this and American Idiot to be their best ALBUMS. Both are very consistent, and I like the new sound and direction.
It doesn't have their best songs, those are scattered around their earlier recordings. But as a full album, it's one of their most consistent and enjoyable.
I thought, anyways. Again, I'm a minority here.This Message Edited On 05.16.09

Ok then, if it is their best album in your opinion I have no issue with the 5, however I still think it probably isn't a 5 star album. But heck you probably don't think most of my 5's are worthy either.

this is a 1 star album

Does anyone else think it's funny that all the 'corporate media' and 'forms of authority' that are interested in 'selfish manipulation' (all Billie Joe's words) are falling over themselves in praise of this, yet when it comes to the sort of site you think their politics qould support, where the people review and select the rating, it gets panned

Yeah, it's pretty funny.

tbh, not wishing to sound like too muhc of a bitter cynical bastard, green day are part of the corporate stranglehold, making money for the big corporation whilst providing a pretence of rebellion that will lead to nothing more than maybe some kids voting for a democratic corporat stooge rather than a republican one

Oh, yeah, definitely.
But really, you can't blame them. It seems like it's their genuine opinion, and if you can make music about what you believe in while making millions of dollars... well, more power to you.
It's all bullshit, though. Their lyrics are worthless.
