I've skipped Shadowthrone though, is that decent? Might check it tomorrow.

i think it was either that or nemesis divina, of which i had heard samples, maybe from both, and thought "hey this isn't anything like dark medieval times" and just decided that dark medieval times was a one-off sort of thing from the band. kind of like this, actually, i don't really care for immortal beyond this debut
also kind of like dimmu borgir. i love their first two LPs but then they go off into mostly unfamiliar territory

Totally agree. I feel the same way. With Immortal they went a little too streamlined for my tastes, and same goes for Satyricon.
Dimmu is a teenage love of mine though, played the crap out of Death Cult, Puritanical and Spiritual Black Dimensions. Didn't stick with me like Cradle have though.
You're no Cradle guy right?

i think i may have heard one or two tracks of cradle of filth 15 years ago, lol. dimmu borgir was the first metal i really was introduced to, back in the days of CKY, definitely those three you listed got a lot of play when i was 12 or 13. but as time went on it's really just for all tid and stormblast that i love anymore for the really moody atmospheres

You guys should not sleep on Shadowthrone or ND if you dug DMT from Satyricon. That trilogy of records is among the best of norwegian 2nd wave. Yeah they might have a cleaner aesthetic on ND not unlike Swedish melodic bm but Shadowthrone is def closer to DMT and I think you guys should give it a try

Budgie you might give The Principle, Cradle's debut, a try. It's super theatrical and stuff but also very much rooted in bm. Love it a lot.
I'll try Shadowthrone tomorrow alchimiste, ND sadly didn't do anything for me.

Yes, given the fact that we're something like estranged twins I can't imagine you disliking it.

I respectfully disagree. Pure Holocaust and SoND are the tops for me - just slightly ahead of Damned In Black.
But still: m/
