They are all great but I still think they peaked with Draconian Times. That album is just smth special.

draconian times is pretty much the destillation and perfection of the style found on here, yeah.

It's crazy how I'll feast on Drac for a while then say "it's great but I have exhausted it because it's a bit too built on immediacy", let it rest for a while, and then I'll return to it and feel like it's the freshest thing ever. Truly an evergreen

"Icon, our fourth album was released in 1993 and for it’s 30th anniversary, we’re re-recording it and doing an extra special vinyl release.
That’s all we can share for now, but watch this space for more information and a few special announcements very soon!"
Nice. Always thought the early PL albums could use better production.

Hmmmm interesting Eg.
Tentatively excited about the idea of it, though I have to say I have little faith in Nick being able to pull of anything close to how he sounded here. The question is, will he growl or will he go with the strained "loud" vocals of Tragic Idol.
Icon's got the best Nick vocals and Tragic Idol has the worst imo, so this could end up sounding much worse than the original, but weirdly I have faith that they could pull it off (in the studio at least)

Nick's doing death growls all over Icon
|
| |
I'm terrorized by the thought of Icon with modern metal production, but Obsidian sounded surprisingly good so there's hope.
Vocals-wise I guess Nick's probably going to be fine at least in the studio if he can still channel the Faith Divides Us bark

I'm with Eg on this one, think he's gonna growl too since that seems to be the only thing he has left in the bag. I love his growling though, so that could be a very welcome thing
Yeah Obsidian had the best production the band had since the 90s so here's hoping they let the same guy handle this one.

But why??? Icon is good the way it is. Just hope they won't pull a Believe in Nothing Remix/Remastered or a Clayman 2020 on us.

A new version couldn't hurt. It may attract new listeners, make them some money and MAYBE EVEN sound better. Though according to most of the FB comments such ideas are blasphemous.

If bands aren't declining I have no qualms with them re-recording classics, and to me PL are as good as they've ever been
I don't believe they can make it sound better though just because of Nick's vocals being severely shot when it comes to delivery such as it was on here. Hell, he couldn't sing this stuff in the early 2000s anymore
|
| |
mmm what if they make it a bit more death doomy in general? Like not sticking to the source material too rigidly. Could be cool

This is one of my favorite metal albums ever and I am totally stoked for the re-recording. If it ain’t good, we’ll always still have the original
