There's also to consider the actual instrumentation itself. Compare the catchy hooks, sing-along choruses, and I-IV-V riffs of Green Day to... let's say the barking vocals, chromatics-heavy solos, and bleak riffing of Celtic Frost. Now, which do you think the average lay person is going to be more interested in?

Don't worry. Chan and I have been speaking out against Metallica for a while now and despite the annyoance of dealing with fanboys, we get through.

Don't forget Drunken Viking, who helped spearhead the charge against Metallica with the flamed (yet well-written) review of MoP.

The singles on this album are really good, but half the songs are filler and it's not pleasant to listen to one of the greatest theash bands play mainstream,radio-friendly metal. If only Metallica were still playing thrash...This Message Edited On 05.22.07

This is a great Metallica album. I am a hardcore fan of the old stuff and I enjoy the album as much as I enjoyed Ride the Lightning. In my opinion Metallica is the best American band.

This Album Is A Metallica Album Just Because These Guys had Sth. In Them called Thrash Metal But They Still Let Bob Rock To Take The Creative Direction And It Is Obvious From The Sound Of Black Album. As Time Passed His Domination Over Metallica Surfaced More & More And Now Rick Rubin Should Clean The Shit.

I must say the all caps of the previous comment are very annoying. This is the only Metallica album I own and I don't care for them enough to get anything else of theirs.

I was under the impression that producers sort of guide the directions that the songs take...sure, Metallica wrote the riffs but Bob Rock may have helped with arranging the tracks and maybe suggesting ways for James to sing vocal lines and such.

That's what producers do.

Right, and Bob Rock came from producing lots of other big bands earlier in the 80's that made lots of money, so it probably a big reason to bring him on to produce this record was to make an album that would make lots of money, something Metallica couldn't have done with another ...And Justice album.
