Ya there's definitely a timeline / arc effect in choosing favorite albums. I think this happens because albums do wear off on people, and also because when people really start anticipating their year end lists (September onward most likely) they change their listening habits (downloading a higher number of albums...) and expectations (...with the expectation to be blown away by at least one of them) in the hope of finding that special album.

I think it'd be better to shrug large expectations in order to find that 'special album' as your listening pleasure would be less of a hectic nature.
