Akeldama is better than this overall, though it's a little more melodic and less technical.

As boring as Akeldama was boring as it was generic, I'm really starting to warm up to this album alot more (has far more to offer in terms of replay value). This just feels alot more thought out. I know I had my thoughts before about this album, but minds can change over time .

'i wish he had more technical skill, but it's enjoyable enough i suppose'

Pretty ridiculous, Keene has heaps of technical ability, thats apparent to anyone who has heard any song by The Faceless.

haha the guitar work needs to be more technical...thats a laughable statement.

i'm sure both of you would speak less from your asses if you saw keene butcher the pestilence and an autopsy solos live time and time again.

i'm beginning to think that coldly calculated design is actually better than xenochrist. the song coupled with its intro is just such a delightful contrast. the intro also helped me to listen to all of the clever chord changes that were arranged.

Keene was almost perfect when I saw them in November, especially with the new material.

i agree that he does well with the new material which is great... i still didn't see much improvement in pestilence and an autopsy. the pestilence solo's runs seemed as butchered as ever to me. as for an autopsy, he extends each of the diminished sweeps vertically which i feel is him just facilitating the otherwise somewhat difficult three-string pattern on the album version.

i don't mean to come off as an elitist. i love this band to death. it's just hard not to make comparisons to superior guitarists a lot of the time, especially considering the fact as some nobody junior shredder such as myself can play the faceless' leads with relative ease. (excluding the title track from akeldama) guess i should lurk youtube moar.

I find the catchiness of the songs more important then the technicality -- there's a lot of other uber tech bands that play songs that just aren't very memorable or interesting.

Keene uses his tech skills to keep all the songs "fresh" and not something like the same recycled riff like suicide silence *cough*.This Message Edited On 01.04.09

Let's never mention the musical travesty that is Suicide Silence in here again.

That's not entirely true. There are moments on here that hint at black metal.

The only part that might sound like a black metal riff is in Xenochrist. I can't think of any other part on the album that does.

I feel alone in saying the almost imrpov jazz style progressions and unusual chord structures are miles beyond akeldama. Haunting riffs and ambient keyboards are mixed perfecty, giving the alien/conspiracy theme a lot of nuance that catchy, simple riffs would simply not convey.
And by the way, the clip is from an anonymous phone all on the Art Bell show, back in the late 90's. The guy disappears for a few years after the call, phones in out of the blue, hurriedly claims his story was a hoax, and was never heard from again.
pretty cool sh*t.This Message Edited On 01.08.09
