i was just thinking that planes description was p honestly

its great seeing an opinion actually deacribed in a bit of detail but without going into a full review which is often in my mind pretentious

lol all the best ones do ;]

theyre somewhere in-between psych rock/shoegaze and punk/postpunk

the themes are quite joy divisionish, though not quite as bleak, more just a lonely feel as opposed to utter despair

they remind a bit of lonerism style tame impala, more shoegazy

My complaint here is I prefer the aesthetic to the actual songs. I think all their later albums have better quality songs (though not always a more inviting sound)

Revisited this (along with finally checking out Weird Era Cont) and it's grown on me. I can appreciate the shoegaze influences a lot more than when I first listened to it.

Listening to only shoegaze lowers standards ;P

‘Nothing Ever Happened’ is a classic agreed, not quite enough here for a 4 bump from me

I don't think I really appreciated this as an atmospheric entity before either. Above I was talking about it not having strong enough songs but I realize that that's not really the point of this album.

I can respect that, this definitely has a great sound to it. Maybe unlucky it didn’t become a mainstay at any point to build the nostalgic link that atmosphere-centric albums I consider classics like ‘Endless Summer’ by Fennesz or ‘Does it Look Like I’m Here’ by Emeralds did. There’s an element of ‘right time right place’ to a lot of albums

i've been listening to this a lot recently and i think it's "clicked" in the same way spiderland did all those years ago: when an album you previously adored reveals hidden depths and secrets and resonance even beyond the surface-level pristine. which is to say i'm very sad and Deerhunter make it better, always
