the MOP days are over, Rob is the new bassist, he coincides with the new metallica, thats good, because St. Anger and lawsuites, though u may not like it, is the new metallica!

I think that this album TOGETHER with ride the lightning are MEtallicas best albums ever. I don't think any albums of MEtallica should be rivals and/or enemies. They both kick ***.

Why keep going on about how gtood they both are. You keep saying that they are equal when you keep up this fight, and I think That Ain't necessary.

This album is clearly one of metallicas best and is also one of the well known, it has some classic songs appearing on it such as "welcome home (sanitarium)", "battery" and of course "master of puppets" the remastered version is but a mear tribute when compared to this great album of the 80s.

Every song is a classic except for "The Thing That Should Not Be". That song is annoying and its the albums only downfall.

Alright, I usually have a policy of not rating any album I don't own, but I had this for about a week when I first got into metal when I borrowed a copy from a friend. It was enough to convince me just god damn overrated the album and the band is.

I'm sorry, but this album drags horribly, Hetfield sounds more constipated than angry, Lars is (as usual) only barely keeping time, and Cliff Burton was grossly overrated. Yes, he was the musically adept member of the band, but from the way he was glorified I expected him to completely blow my mind. Didn't happen.

In fact, now that I think of it, the bass did the same thing as on most thrash albums: vanished into the mix a lot and mostly just played roots and fifths. That's one thing that always annoyed me about a lot of thrash bands. No good bass work, at least none that you could hear on the albums.

Metallica simply shouldn't be writing songs over 4 minutes. They can't keep them interesting long enough to justify it.

I know I'm going to be in the minority, but this was just an incredibly boring album. This Message Edited On 05.29.06

I'd like to yell at you right now. But you're smarter than me and would come back with a slew of witty comments to embarass me. So, I'll be fair. You presented you're opinion. You made a few good points. Perhaps, exaggerated a few of them. Although, I disagree with just about everything you said. And you may be a little biased towards Metallica. Although, you were right to say that Cliff is a bit over glorified. He's just put up on a petistal because he died in a tragic accident and people feel it would be in bad taste to insult him.

I agree with Steerpike and Drunken Viking, except that this is the only Metallica album I'd bother to listen to today. The rest of it pretty much bores me, sans a few numbers here and there. However, I still respect them as musicians, but certainly not as people. This Message Edited On 05.29.06

Yeah I find that song to be way to repetitive. Hetfield tried to be deep and political with his vocals but it didn't really work. It does have an excellent solo, though.
