The only thing that irks me a little about this album is that some of the lyrics feel outdated esp on the t/t (despite it still being one of my favorite songs on the album). Some of it is very obviously early post-9/11

Ah yeah No Dev is classic and definitely their best, but CE sets it up to sound especially great ;]
Yeah for real, there's a lot of zeitgeist floating around on this - ig this brand of posthxc sounds so of its time to begin with that it's not too out of place, but definitely a bit dated

Exactly. FC sounds even more “of it’s time”, but in its case, it actually is a slight detriment. Still a solid album though. Just seems a little overrated from what I’ve seen. Seems like lots grew up listening to it and have nostalgia tied to it. I on the other hand don’t, so it’s a 3.5 at best for me.

I mean, that's basically FC. I said before that album is a nostalgia listen. The songs I go back to on that album are only Understanding and Standing On the Edge of Summer. Wind-Up is pretty good, too. I don't see why you need nostalgia for this album, but not FC. Aside from the obvious 9/11 inspired title track, I don't hear many other lyrics on this album that are terribly dated.

The only reason this sounds 'dated' to me is because no phxc band would dare to have production like this today

FC actually grew on me a ton since I wrote my last comment. Went from a 3.5 to prob a 4.5.

God this was a awful review by a EMERITUS. You would think the quality of writing would be better.

The review is perfectly fine, well-written.

Seems fine to me. Especially considering it was posted in 2008. Doesn't feel extremely dated like a lot reviews that old.

Review is a load of generalising this-is-what-I-thinks packaged as fact and backed up by extremely cursive analysis. Not great, but I've definitely seen worse from this time
Lol turns out I also reviewed this ages ago? Am sure that one is awful too

"We're coming to the capitol
The distance between us will rupture
(Coming to the capitol)
In our hearts the disease won't touch us
(Coming to the capitol)"
This lyric too relevant right now haha

this held up crazy well
slept on steps ascending for way too long but the end of that song is one of the most incredible moments they ever recorded

always got this album confused with a city by the light divided, even though city is a stronger album imo, with better songs
