you are just a loser

It's the only album i've ever listened to that I would say comes close to perfect. I want to put my genitalia into it. I want to swim inside it then drink it. I want to eat it and not even put and salt on it

Everyone who disagrees with the review is pulling any possible reason out of their arses to neg, it's just ridiculous. If the review was written in a similar fashion but with a 4 above to it, this would have no negs.
I agree, thanks for the pos. Haven't caught you on MSN in a while dude. This Message Edited On 07.03.08

you suck up to the staff or guys with comments in the thousands (see interactions with mynameischan and staff)

Yeah I mean everyone else doesn't suck up to the staff or chan for that matter.

Plus most of the staff has made better points/been more respectful.

I'd like to actually here your description of the technical side of this album because you make it sound like the musicianship is bland when it really isn't, and you even point out the drumming.

Hell the comment about palm-muting. that's like saying, "oh this song is being played in a key it must be bad"

It's not really fair for you to review this album because I get the sense that you haven't listened to it enough to appreciate what it contains. It's like someone who listens to indie-rock reviewing an album by Tony Macalpine. They haven't had the time to fully absorb the work and they'll just throw it off as guitar-wankery.

And the stereotyping about the lyrics and fans is just crude.

Side note: This thread kinda reminds me of that review that classical music-guy did of that Beatles album.

I don't do consumer reviews, nor do I bore people with technical description ("the song begins with a joyous piano intro in the key of D, which then transforms into a soft chorus featuring the guitarists' gentle fingerpicking atop an ambience of blah blah zzzzzzz"). Just the way I am, I prefer a more traditional/professional/opinionated form.

Yeah only not really at all.

Dude. Metal used to be all I listened to. I pretty much would have fit in with every user on this site about 4 and a half years ago. But tastes just change. But I know good metal still, even if it isn't personally my favorite thing.

And the stereotyping about the lyrics and fans is just crude.

I'm not stereotyping the lyrics. The lyrics are simply stereotypical. This Message Edited On 07.03.08

^They seem to me to make the same mistakes a lot of old metal bands did that we now laugh at as Spinal Tap trash. The mystical kind of concept, the misoygny (and anyone claiming there is none didn't listen to this record), the flowery language to describe dumb things, etc. Everything stereotypically bad in metal lyrics.

I apologize if I came across as a bit of an ass. It almost makes me a hypocrite with the fact that I was commenting on how angry you sounded in the review. I will say this about the review on a more positive note; you have a knack for solid writing.

you do know that the bassist writes the lyrics right, and it's just his way of expressing his thoughts about stuff... coke probably knows it better than I do but the lyrics are fucking amazing

yeah so the guy can use a dictionary and yeah so it's not about his girlfriend he broke up with. so it's about Gods and things and all that other jazz. it fits the music, it fits the band, it fits what they're trying to do here. I don't see any problems with the lyrics at all apart from how they're sung, as I don't really like screamed vocals all that much, but I've listened to the album often enough now that I can get over that, I dig Rody's vocals otherwise.

The lyrics are amazing but they definitely can get a little ridiculous. But, I mean, that's kind of intentional. They're fairly intelligently written but they lend themselves to the cliches and bombast of the genre. Its meant to split seriousness and silliness, and I think it does so quite well. And it's not misogynistic in the least, and if you think it is, you're probably misinterpreting something. It's the total opposite of misogyny, the entire concept revolves around revisiting the idea of goddess worship. If it were a matter of misogyny it would enforce female strength and faggity shit like that.

Well I figured you like viking metal lyrics in viking metal music. I mean I don't think you'd enjoy viking metal lyrics in indie-pop music. like there are plenty of genres (mathcore included) that I don't want tainted with viking metal lyrics

a few things since coming back.

the wizard did not "rip me a new one." Everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about as far as the riffs being similar. I could go into detail and look up all of the guitar terminology to describe it perfectly but that is the most boring thing anyone could do in a review. Second, the point about the palm muting is obvious. There is CONSTANT palm muting in the background the entire song almost every song! And I don't need any more detail than that. Just listen to the god damn album. Behind all the finger tapping higher pitched riffs is repetative palm muting. And his third point was non existent minus "epic fail!" Not what I call "ripping a new one."

foreverendeared is right. If I suddenly became the next Robert Christgau, people would not like me just because I am the same guy who likes Panic, Cute, and FTSK. That and apparently, my sarcastic attitude demonstrates that I'm just doing this all "for the attention." The only bands you can direct any scorn at are pop punk groups or totally easy targets like that.

But hey guess what? I don't care. I like this website even if half the people on it have been complete dicks to me. I like this website even if smileyface keeps going back and forth between pos'ing and neg'ing my review depending on which opinion on it is currently popular in the thread and who he can pander to. I like this website even if some ICP fan randomly shows up in my threads all the time pretending he's not the same guy that's been stalking this website on and off for months. Even if I'm constantly getting negged with no given reason in the comments. Even if HighandDriving comes into random threads of mine every few weeks just to leave a short comment that my opinion doesn't count because I criticized one of his prog bands and rated a PATD album good. Even if my tastes are totally at odds with most of the people here.

So keep negging me and bashing me. It doesn't matter and I'm not leaving this website. I like some of the people on it, and I enjoy writing reviews. So, yeah.

and that's why you have my respect. Well said.

At this point it is the same shit every page so I guess I'm done commenting my own review. Oh btw just found out these guys are going to be at warped tour when I go. Sweet, a single "tr00 metal" band to make sure we get a bunch of obnoxious metal fans throwing bottles and making fun of all the other bands there that day! This Message Edited On 07.03.08
