To treekoel: you don't have to be an expert songwriter to criticize another's ability. Just because I'm not the greatest songwriter that lived, doesn't mean I can't recognize when a bad song is written. I grow tired of hearing the lame comeback: "I'd like to see you do better".

This album is unjustifiably bashed. I found the album wonderful with just American Idiot as the single. Then 4 more below average tracks and St. Jimmy killed it for too many people.

green day is ok. there old stuff is awesome. the song american idiot sucks. but the other singles are ok.

i think it is really hard to write a song. but billie jo has it all. american idiot is probably the worst songwriting ive ever seen, but songs like when i come around are the best.

Im from uruguay, and i think that greenday made a good change by making its songs more political. I think that they stop doing teenage music with stupid lyrics, and started doing serious music.

(sory if dont write correctly, i know very little english)

Green Day ROCK!!!
the best rock band ever! under coldplay, but they're a different kind of rock, anyway.
Their songs have the perfect amount of distortion in their guitar, awesome sounds and lyrics, cool as lead breaks, everything about them is awesome!
ST Jimmy is awesome! i've grown attatched to that one ever since i burned american idiot to my xbox.

I'm not a fanboy, but I purchased the album upon it's release because I liked the humor Green Day put into it's music. This album was a bit too sulky though. Still I grew to like it ok, I don't listen to it much, but it isn't that bad. I actually like Jesus of Suburbia pretty good, and the final song, Whatsername.

Fore the guys who don't like greenday songs:

Heve u ever tried to write a song yourself? I think when anyone of u wrote a song like those from greenday, he would be ****ing proud on it.

Though i would

greetz

I've written a song. About 18 or 19 in the past year, in fact.

And who cares if you don't like a Green Day song? It's your own opinion! God, I can't express that enough! This Message Edited On 02.14.06

I'm changing my opinion. The album is decent, but I just hate what Green Day has become.

yeah.. i guess it is kinda weird of them to go political all of a sudden. i think the lyrics are good, especially "home is where ur heart is but what a shame cuz everybody's heart doesn't beat the same." - from jesus of suburbia. its cool to see them using the piano and saxiphone in sum songs, how its totally different from their old stuff but they still stick loosely to their old song writing style so that they're not totally unrecognizeable. no one wants to hear the same album twice...

Hey, people have you all forgotton what punk music is, IT IS POLITICAL, look at the first punk records sex pistols and the clash, its all political! and as far as pop-punk goes, if they were trying to be pop-punk they would not have written such a controversial album that would get banned from radio stations would they????

Its about time a band put out a real punk record not the pop-punk s*it that gets called punk on commerical stations like Simple Plan or The Used.

Punk music is not about funny songs it is about political songs against the goverment.

Green day are pop punk, and so therefore are not classed in the same group as the sex pistols. Besides Green day did the whole political thing wrong. But I still like the album none the less.

Silly noob.

The difference is that Green Day started out as a fun group, with funny lyrics and charming videos, and then they just decided to go political, and it completely ruined their fun image which I used to love.

It's not that unbelievable, 1039. Besides the american idiot stuff, the only other song I hear regularly is Good Riddance. Green Day isn't that important that everyone has heard something of their past. This Message Edited On 02.19.06

as far as I know the Ramones weren't very political, unless their trillion songs about glue-sniffing were thinly-veiled political rants.

And even then, Johnny Ramone was a Republican. I think Iggy Pop is too.

Most punk is political, but pop punk isnt to some degree. You dont see many pop punk bands do political, well other than green day.

AI was probably only banded in the US becuase of its anti-american/war view.

people are saying PUNK IS POLITICAL DUHHH, well yeah it is but they are very hypocritical, an example of a great great punk band today is anti-flag, sticks to their words and don't bale out to please the 14 year old girls fantasizing over some punk or emo or whatever looking rockers, anti-flag is the best punk band i can think of today, but green day tries to be political but uses every freaking form of advertising possible

'sup long-winded rant.

and I really don't see how Anti-flag is more "punk" than Green Day. They're really just convey the same pre-packaged Michael Moorized "counter-culture" ideologies that are found in Green Day's music.

Secondly, where are these reports about this album being banned from radio in the first place?
