apparently he wrote it because some school teacher wrote him saying she was getting her class to analyse his lyrics and he just wanted to fuck with them. When the music is that good (seriously, how the fuck was it recorded in 1967) and with that vocal melody, who cares if the lyrics are nonsensical?
