Yeah, I'm not a big Filosofem fan either. He came out with his last black metal Umskiptar in 2012. I liked it, most people didn't though. Since then, he's only come out with ambient albums which I haven't bothered to listen to.

The first four Burzum albums get enough attention so there's no need for a long review.

The self-titled 'Burzum' is a great start pointing. The riffs are solid, the atmosphere is bleak, and the pained screams are fitting. Varg was a pioneer of the genre and had a style very different from the rest.

The standouts are 'Ea, Lord of the Depths' with it's arpeggiated riff and the spectacular 'My Journey to the Stars.'

The other tracks are decent enough, but 3 stick out as unworthy to being on here. 'Channeling The Power Of Souls into a New God' is one of his weaker ambient pieces. It's not a great interlude and could have easily been left off. 'War' is absolute garbage and is nothing more than a joke with a cringeworthy solo. 'The Crying Orc' is filler. Take those 3 tracks off and you have a solid 42 minutes of black metal.

3.5/5

dont need to put your rating at the end of the comment everyone can see your album rating on top and by saying the other tracks are just decent means you must die
