Musically, this is really, really far away from Blue Train, in pretty much every aspect. Unless you don't really mind that, I'd listen to Giant Steps next, then probably Africa/Brass or Impressions (or both) next, then this. Makes for a pretty smooth transition, plus those are all fantastic albums so you should listen to them anyway.

"Unless you don't really mind that"

depends, is this that crazy kind of dissonant freeform jazz? im pretty new to the genre so that stuff is still kind of daunting to me.

Not really, the sax and such are free/improvised and at times the record gets fairly intense but otherwise it's for the most part rather soothing and just all around pleasant (the drums are pretty agitated though, but they're not free form)

This was my first Coltrane album and it worked out fine for me (It was the album that tuned me into Jazz) but in retrospect it's quite satisfying to experience his evolution and it only makes this look better so yeah, listen to them.

Pursuance is incredible. It was one of the first ever jazz pieces I ever heard and I was floored.
