Did you even listen to it? Or are you just trying to be more metal than us and bash the band because they don't all have long hair and drinking problems?

He doesn't like the album dude. As much as I disagree with him, you're just making yourself look stupid.

I have no problem with him not liking it, but so many metal purists trash on bands without even giving them a chance based simply on the bands' image or fans. Metal fans used to complain during Nu Metal's height that the importance of musicianship in metal was no longer around. Here's a band bringing it back and doing something original and the purists still find something about it to complain about, yet of course, he didn't even give any reason.

Well, who cares about musicianship or not. Good music is good music. There are terms to being "good" and musicianship can be a part of that. I'd say Tool, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, and even Glassjaw were good things that were influenced by nu-metal. Musicianship was not the primary importance with any of those bands but they are all definitely good. Metal doesn't need mad shreding to be good or not. I understand why people would want to hate on this album. From many perspectives, it's an amorphous shredfest, which can be just as disheartening as weak nu-metal with no instrumental intrigue. However, I feel BTBAM is more interesting than that but those complaints will definitely exist.

Awesome album. Does anyone else notice that the "Fly On" section of Ants of the Sky sounds like a total ripoff of the "Destroyer" section of Dillinger Ecape Plan's Sunshine the Werewolf?

DFelon204409, didn't RATM come before the whole nu-metal craze really got going?

I wouldn't lump Between the Buried and Me into all the shredfest bands that do it just to show off. They do it very tastefully.

Who cares? They're a band of that ilk that will be remembered for producing great music independent of the genre. My point was that songwriting trumps musicianship. The success of a few nu-metal bands prove that. Honestly, there isn't one straight up metal band that can touch the emotional weight of a song like "Digital Bath" by Deftones or the political immediacy of a RATM song.

I listened to this album and heartily wanted to stomp on it. It's not because I want to be purist, I like Muse and Fall Out Boy. I just think this album is one big incoherent mess that never goes anywhere and ultimately ends up being a snoozefest.
Oh, and the vocals are so terrible it's not even funny anymore gah.

Purely opinion and I disagree entirely. There are plenty of very emotional metal songs. Plus, political songs usually suck because nobody wants to hear some idiot spouting off his views.

Yea, do some research before you talk. He's never written a single song pushing his views.

Regardless, he makes an effort to make his political beliefs known. He is using his fame to push his beliefs, I don't really consider that much different than putting it in his songs. TBQH I'd probably prefer Nazi lyrics to second rate Tolkein quotes.
Having politically conscious songs doesn't make you any less of an artist. It's another form of self expression, and although alot of bands exploit it for Media attention, there are plenty of groups that have a legitimate message.
Saying that music shouldn't be political is like saying that art in general shouldn't be political. One of the reasons I love Riviera and Picasso so much is that they took political stances. Guernica is one of the greatest paintings of the 20th Century.
Writing music off because it expresses political beliefs is ignorant.

He makes an effort by putting them on his personal site, which you chose to read about? All he does is state his beliefs on his site. He doesn't even act like you should agree with him.
And I never said that someone shouldn't write political songs. All I said was that a lot of people get annoyed by artists spouting off their views. They can write political songs all they want, but I might not like them pushing their views on me. In my original post, I was basically just trying to say that political immediacy has no bearing on how good a song is. Plus, mainstream political lyrics never cease to annoy me because all it is is pure left-wing propaganda all the time because that is what makes money. People want to hear artists like Green Day saying, "**** Bush, **** the system, **** the War in Iraq. This Message Edited On 09.27.07
