this is better than a lot of their stuff and a bit underrated

I don’t care if you dislike the vocals, I know not everyone cares for the style on this album but to say he’s like fucking terrible and never hits notes is a huge exaggeration

Lol you can feel however you want and I'm happy for you that it doesn't bother you because personal taste and preference and whatever. But Dominici flubs notes multiple times per song and mostly because he just doesn't have the range and power to sing the things he's trying to sing, and doesn't have the attitude and emotiveness to make up for it. He's not a terrible singer, just terrible at singing these vocal lines.

Agreed, the vocals are absolutely atrocious.
There are some great songs on here though, like Only A Matter Of Time and Ytse Jam.
Definitely still better than all of their 2010s output.

I mean, even by the standard of 80s hair and glam metal, they sound pretty weak. I didn't mind them so much when I was like 13 though, and was in my diehard DT phase. Kevin Moore's work on here sounds as incredible as always, and Myung has a lot of fantastic moments too.

these vox are good? I am so confused why ppl don’t like them. I dig the grandiose romantic style of them a lot

In my reckless abandon I had written them off some years ago as a one trick pony with Pull Me Under and revisiting them now it’s like listening to an entirely new band lol

Jamming this right now. I've always loved A Fortune In Lies and Ytse Jam has really cool stuff in it. The album suffers from poor production and mediocre vocals but as far as the riffs and writing goes it's a pretty strong start to their career. Vocals aren't awful but they just don't fit at times, especially in the higher register.
Favorite pre-LaBrie song still is Another Won but that's pretty much just a Rush song in not much of a disguise haha.

Kevin Moore as usual, absolutely steals the show on this album.
He definitely belongs up there with Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, and Tony Banks as being one of the prog gods.

Yeah the production issues made the keyboard bits a bit too overpowering but fortunately they were good keyboard bits.
