The fact that this is the highest rated proves that people have made their own opinion despite elitist metal-heads trying to sway them. It seems odd that you would call out people for not having their own opinion while bitching that everybody doesn't share your personal opinion. If they all shared your opinion would it then be okay for them to not have their own opinion?
The album is progressive thrash whether you like it or not. It might not be the most progressive album out there or the thrashiest, but it still fits. I do agree that the first four songs are the best on the album, but that doesn't mean the other tracks aren't really good -- just not quite to the same level. As soon as you start throwing around the term 'pop metal' for music that obviously isn't, you earn a special lower place in neanderthal metal head lore. It's how people like you try to prove how extreme or elite the shit you listen to is.
It was the vocalist's idea (apparently over the objections of the rest of the band). Considering when the album was released, the keys don't really sound out of place even though they could be considered 'low-fi' by today's standards.
The band obviously weren't out of ideas and were still pushing their sound forward. Whether you like the end-result or not does not dictate whether or not they were actually out of ideas. Memorable choruses aren't the same as pop choruses. Trying to compare 'My Soul's Affliction' to Voivod is definitely reaching. It's riffier and groovier. You're obviously focusing just on the verse sections and even those don't sound like Piggy's style at all. The vocals are all Kenn's style -- no different from the previous three releases.
It's funny because the way you try to present your opinion as fact seems to imply that mommy and daddy gave you too many hugs and always treated you like the world revolved around you. But on the other hand, the serious lack of social skills seems to imply that nobody has hugged you in a really long time.
