"Transformer is glam at its finest"

that's pretty accurate, is that a good thing though? Glam is like 70's nu metal IMO.

It's all good, because glam at its worst is probably some of the cheesiest stuff I've had the pleasure of listening to.

Berlin is like the fine line between theatrical glam cheesiness and a genuinely depressing story of a drug-addled pair of lovers that manages to not be melodramatic , but it manages to work because Reed sounds completely sincere in his delivery and doesn't necessarily hold back concerning the story. Considering the album was meant to be a play, it makes perfect sense for it to be theatrical, so that entirely negates the previous sentence.

Not sure I'd agree, the way I see it Berlin's best moments are the least theatrical ones ("The Kids", "The Bed") and I always turn the record player off before the pompous "Sad Song".

Also I thought we were talking Transfomer. ;)

it's almost like this came out in 1975 and all the hipster noise shit you listen to today would never have existed without this

this album was also kinda key in developing My Bloody Valentine, so one could argue it helped evolve shoegaze

good alb, but not quite the genre-definer for noise that many make it out to be.
still, good shit.
kinda therapeutic.

it's too prototypical to be a genre-definer but nonetheless it's important to the timeline

It's obviously an important album for many reasons, nobody disputes that. That doesn't make it good though. Also Lou already kinda of did it on White Light / White Heat just not in that grand way where it wasn't just a ~concept~

White Light/White Heat utilized noise as well but to say Lou already did MMM on it is missing the point. On WLWH noise was just a tool, a substantial ingredient, but one amongst many, whereas here it's the main one, in fact the only one. WLWH proved you can make music with noise, but it was MMM that showed noise IS music. You seem to acknowledge that but not the importance of that.

sach what did define noise music in your opinion? i know quite a few examples of pre-1975 "noise" but none of them is quite as "pure" as this.

pauline oliveros' early works with feedback were the biggest gamechanger for noise and its conception imo, although there are a lot of contenders for first noise-defining work.
