Anyway, upon review, it's good despite some flaws in comparison to Nightside, but I find little reason to treat it as an influential or even superlative work.

They weren’t better lmao. They’re great too but you’re on bath salts.

This one maybe you could make a case but not Nightside. At least not for me. That album is a 12/5. Best atmosphere and best vox on a bm album imo and still hasn’t been matched.

I wasn't making the case for Nightside, it was for this one. I was referring an inferiority to Nightside on Anthems' part.

Leaving aside those who prefer In the nightside eclipse over this for their own romantic reasons, I sincerely fail to grasp why the majority of the black metal scene thinks that the former can even stand next to this masterpiece, let alone be better than it...

Nightside is better because it has one clear aim and totally goes for it without consessions. It doesn't get distracted, doesn't take even one moment of rest, it just utterly goes for it. It does all that and manages to have perfect stand alone tracks too.

I mean, it has a piece that is clearly an opener and one that is clearly a closer, but that's about it for "distractions", the rest is just epic black metal. Hell, In the Nightside Eclipse also has an opener and that one is just 50 seconds of pointless sounds.

Idk those pointless sounds instantly draw me in

Alright, that's cool, but if that isn't considered a distraction then Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk has no distractions.

I'd say the music here on the actual tracks is a little less focused and tight than on Nightside. I'm not saying this isn't focused at all, it's an amazing record obviously, but Nightside is just a little better. It's that damn good.

Currently watching/listening to their set from Bloodstock this year and god damn do I have to see these dudes live. So amazing.

They should put it another album but prob won’t ever happen.

Nightside is easily better than this, although this is still excellent
