Wow and I thought the genre of deathcore was overboard enough, now we need a genre between death metal and deathcore, jesus. Who the hell gives a crap what exact genre this is. It's a death metal album with some hardcore influence plain and simple. No need to call it a techinical, brutal, slam, death metal album.

what is sludgecore btw?

From what I know, sludgecore is more like Eyehategod, Crowbar, Down, Bongzilla, and The Melvins. Basically it's hardcore mixed with sludge metal.

Isn't Mastodon somewhat considered that?

To an extent. They are influenced by most of them. They have a more progressive/ alternative rock edge to them aswell.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.

I think labels are good for explaining what a band sounds like to someone who's never heard them before. For general purposes, though, it's stupid to argue over ambiguities.

Well giving another band that sounds like the band works just as well. Unless you havn't heard any other bands that sounds like it. But than in that case I don't think the person would really understand what deathcore was either. But just why I hate specific labels so much, is that it puts bands into stereotypes that they don't deserve to be in. Perfect example is Converge, they are an amazing band but are so often lumped with all the other crappy hardcore out there.

If anyone thinks this is deathcore, theyre ****** idiots. There are no breakdows whatsoever. This is straight up death metal.
Its a really great album, although it is a little bit plain. However it shows that JFAC have almost limitless potential in them.
Just like someone here said that everyone is just pissed coz theyre so young and got so famous so fast because of MySpace & everyone's pissed because of all the scenesters. Man, fuck all that! These guys make good music. This Message Edited On 05.29.07

Changed my mind again-This isn't "excellent", but it might be top10 metal releases of '07. I actually read the lyrics while listening to the whole album again, as opposed to glimpsing at them separately, and they're very, very well written. In case any of you couldn't figure it out, it's about the book of revelations in the bible.
Musically, this is still pretty standard, but now that I fully grasp what they were trying to do, I can appreciate it more.

Wow, a metal album about the Book of Revelations?
AWESOME

Wow, a metal album about the Book of Revelations? I wasn't taken by the concept initially, either. Maybe you should actually check it out. BTW, why are you posting in here?

They're labeled as deathcore, and you don't need to have breakdowns to be "core", the entire rythm and texture must be taken into account. BUT, this album has proven that they have moved away to a more Death Metal style, so basically you can't really argue that it's definitely confined to one genre, JFAC are basically undergoing a transition.
