I think the new one is being massively overhyped but I still like it. I think Magnetic North is better
|
| |
New one is just growing off me and I was already disappointed to begin with :/ think its homogeneous and a bit suffocating
|
| |
Some fans are way too caught up in the hype. Those pre-listening 5s are dumb, glad that some of you are honest about its mediocrity. hopesfall when you click play, drop the rating.

I had never been into hopesfall but as you said not really understanding all the love it’s gettinf from some people. I have to imagine it’s just excitement over there being a new album because it’s nothing special in the slightest. Didn’t even want to finish listening to the whole thing

I really love Magnetic North a lot but Arbiter does sound a bit generic in comparison. I still think it’s a good album and I’ll be listening to it more, but my initial impression is that it’s my least favorite.

Yeah that's about where I'm at with it, I don't think it's bad but they're capable of much better
|
| |
Jay’s vocals just seem so restrained and one-note, and a lot of the tracks follow the same formula. Magnetic North felt a lot bigger and more adventurous with more intricate and technical guitar work and vocal melodies.

I'll reserve my judgement for when the album's released. I'm rather skeptical of the boring though given the 3 singles have been fire.

my only complaint really is that jay could have added more dirt. i definitely think there are some wasted spaces in there where he could've go crazy. i know I would've at least.
it's solid tho, currently at 4.5 for me. lowest i could give is a four

Jay's monotonous vocal performance is definitely my biggest complaint. The songs on Arbiter have both too much and not enough going on; it piles on and on and on and then just spins in place
|
| |
yep, the songs have no internal logic whatsoever. they just keep tacking on more sections as if that's "development" until they hit the 4-5 min mark, then rinse and repeat
|
| |
I pretty much agree. That being said, there isn’t a track on Arbiter that I straight up dislike.

Drowning Potential drowns its own potential
|
| |
Drowning Potential is probably one of the best tracks agreed
|
| |
Storm glad to see your love for the band has not left you blind to any criticism the album may receive lol
|
| |
yeah there isn’t really anything to hate or genuinely dislike but it’s like... the vocals sound dull and almost uninterested at times. very monotonous. sometimes that delivery works but i don’t think it does here, especially when you add screams to certain parts your delivery should have SOME emotion. it’s just an ok album that is made worse by the fact that you know they can and should have done a lot better.

@lucid true
to be fair tho arbiter wasn't meant to be a hopesfall release. only faint object camera, aphelion, to bloom and drowning potential have the structure of "classic" hopesfall songs
you can tell they are heavily inspired by hum in here. most songs have a huge wall of sound that wasn't as present in magnetic north. could've used more variety i think. and jay does sound monotonous... probably didn't know what to do with some of these instrumentals

Idk guys, the one-two punch of Aphelion and Drowning Potential is Jay at his best. I will agree he does seem to hold back sometimes, but his performance overall was pretty damn good. I'm sure Arbiter will grow on me as I listen to it more
