this album is bad but goddam i still fuck so heavily with city of blinding lights

I like it.
Miracle Drug is abysmal and there’s a couple of other stinkers but there’s some belters.
Vertigo, All Because of You, One Step Closer are all top drawer

miracle drug is one of very few other songs here i deem up to my standards for them lol

‘Freedom has a scent like the top of a new born babys head’
Possible the worst lyric of all time

I just did a marathon listen of all their albums and non-album songs from 1988-this era, and was reminded how fantastic of a song Mercy was and I wished there was a HQ version.

country mile is great goddamn

Country Mile clears most of this lmao, really great song. they kinda fucked Xanax and Wine up with these edits though, really hope Mercy is intact

yeah true i dont hate the new xanax but its def janky. it would be a shame if they fuck it up after so long

til half of these songs are atyclb outtakes (including city of blinding lights and miracle drug)
gamechanger in how i do my tracklists for this band ngl

Album Rating: 2.3
damn where'd you hear that from? never read that but it does seem like the early sessions for this had that more transcendent U2 sound with stuff like Mercy, Country Mile and Blinding Lights before they got cold feet for some reason and phoned in an album of walmart rock instead

https://www.u2songs.com/discography/u2_all_that_you_cant_leave_behind_album_original_release
mentions like 5 songs from this being started around those days altho idk what stages of completion (and two of em are among the worst here lol wide disparity there)
but yea it really frustrates me how i can see the vision for what they wanted this to be in the vault stuff and then so little of it comes across on the main album. heres hoping the other re-assemble tracks are good

innnteresting. can see City and Miracle Drug from that era for sure but Love and Peace especially is a surprise, that song is so much weirder than basically anything else from that time lmao
goddamn Levitate is so good though I forget sometimes
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.0
yeah love and peace was a double take for me too esp since they almost called the album that lol. not a big fan of that song but in like entirely the opposite ways of why im not a big fan of most of atyclb
and yea dude levitate is goddamn incredible. always felt like that song would have made a killer opener
