I was listening to this today morning and all of a sudden I was flooded by memories of a childhood friend that I lost to alcoholism a decade ago. For the longest time he was the happiest person I knew, always the guy to knock on my door for us to go to kick a ball in the field as a kid. Challenges of adulthood just wore him out and he gave up before he turned 30.

Yeah, it can suck sometimes. I have a quite a lot of good memories of the guy that I'm at peace with it now.

This album has a way of bringing out painful memories. It's probably the only record of any I've heard that I struggle to listen to regularly despite loving it as much as I do. I'm glad you at least have good memories of your friend to hold to, that is a powerful thing.

For those that want something similar to this, you should check the new album by Peregrine - the awful things we've done.

Peregrine (U.S.) are an anarcho-primitivist, anti-civilization death/black metal band heavily influenced by down tuned hardcore, crust and black metal.

No wonder the new Peregrine album sounds like the Hotelier, Christian Holden, sings on 2 tracks

Christian Holden - Additional Vocals on "a polite merlot", "sagittarius A"

Sagittarius A is an awesome track

The back half of the Peregrine album is sooooo good, it's easily scratching my hoteliers itch.
