they're standard death metal gutturals. I've heard this album ~5 times though and literally didn't notice them. had to pull up a song to remember what they sounded like

Ah right, should be palatable enough then. As long as they're not deathcore and/or high pitched screaming I should be ok.

i don't see the deathcore vocal comparison at all on any of their material tbh
but yea vox here are pretty standard for dm

they have been sounding at bit more -core'd out but that's vocal wear
|

"but that's vocal wear"
That's definitely the impression I got when I saw them live.

"this album is cool as fuck, but changing preconceptions of death metal? pls."
guess it depends on what those preconceptions are

this album is extremely original, the reason i don't have it 5d is just because musically the ideas didn't mesh with my brain the best, for whatever reason. having said that, every aspect i hear on here is death metal as hell. im just putting the reviewers first statement into question a bit, but yes to a degree its a subjective matter

i mean it's definitely death metal but their stuff doesn't sound like any other dm band I've heard
but i haven't listened to a ton of dm so take that for what it's worth

"i mean it's definitely death metal but their stuff doesn't sound like any other dm band I've heard"
Pretty much yet not quite, especially considering this album (along with Paracletus) has proven to be so influential in recent years. Its sound is familiar now, but in 2009 it was anything but.

Yeah I remember when this shit first came out, total mind fuck.

I guess what people need to understand is that Ulcerate were one of the first bands in this style and they were actual trailblazers. Now of course, I hadn't heard them im 2009, fuck I wasn't even to music by 2009, but I know that bands in this style were extremely rare to come by around then.

Yeah these guys, Mitochondrion, Portal and Impetuous Ritual were really the only dm bands that were doing this style back in those days.
DSO too but they're bm not dm, still the same concept I guess haha.

That reminds me I still have yet to listen to any of those top 3 bands, I probably should. Heard amazing this about them all.

Def get on them soon, all slay hard especially Portal.
|
| |
None of them sound like these guys but if you dig the murk then they're for you

basically these guys heard gorguts and decided to add their own flavors there, and my god are those flavors tasty
mitochondrion, portal and impetuous ritual are more menacing and inaccessible

Agreed with both of you guys.

those three bands were obviously influenced by gorguts too, i'll give you that, but they headed to a different direction than ulcerate
