nope its 3rd best since the ep is also way better. new album is only not bad because of some of the arrangements. kinsella's songwriting is dead imo but his ability for instrumental songcraft barely ever faulters

The EP and LP1 are combined. You can't rank the EP alone since it's just 3 songs and is in the exact same style as everything else on LP1.
Only major flaw in LP2 so far is that the drumming is boring comparatively and Kinsella's voice is mixed too cleanly above the instruments.

and on af1 his lyrics were perfect for the music, subtle teenage genius
then after that he just started writing crappppppy lyrics and now its BAD
for sure for example brings a tear to my eye lyrically. why he cant write those type of lyrics stylistically anymore is beyond me

because you're riding on nostalgia for LP1 and you dont have that for LP2. the lyrics are bad and have always been bad. what saves them on LP1 is the delivery and the instrumentals that lie underneath.

with the exception of a line or two
its perfectly subtle, the melodies are 50x better and more engaging
def agree with the delivery part. fell in love with this record in high school during a dark/indie rock phase and as a guiat player was blown away not even just by the style of the riffs and how good the songcraft around it was, but the melodies themselves
new one sounds like owen with boring, directionless twinkle riffs. they aren't half as melodically exquisite imo if that makes sense
like lyrically for sure is just....omg...new one lyrically is 39 year old alcoholic complaining over pseudo american football riffs. just not feelin it doesnt feel inspired at all
