Think I literally just watched a podcast the other day where one of Periphery guitarists claimed he was self taught so not sure I agree on this take.

Imagine, if you will, a world where you can afford to play guitar 8-10 hours a day instead of working because your family is loaded

Obviously that's gonna help but some people are gonna persevere and become amazing / super technically proficient with their instruments even in spite of not having that privilege.

For sure, this is just not one of those cases lmao. It’s fine that they’re rich kids but it is weird seeing people having a hard time coping about that

jake is way too polished. like just visually watching jake play solos... that dude was absolutely trained by some petrucci approved instructor. no wasted movement at all.

pretty sure misha said in an interview his parents paid his rent when he decided to go full-time musician. he still worked a job to pay for his gear/guitars but just recorded/played guitar in all his spare time.

You can't be the nephew of Petrucci without having him teach you a thing or two about guitar, no doubt

oh yeah i get that for sure. periphery was my first dive into this kinda stuff, found the shug after. so i got a huge soft spot for them. textures was tight tho i haven't heard them in a long time.
