I know a guy that listens to most of the more accessible stuff that I love, like Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Darkest Hour, and metalcore like As I Lay Dying and Underoath. But lately, he's been getting more into shitty bands like Devil Wears Prada and August Burns Red, and has fought off all efforts to pull him in the right direction.

August Burns Red is cool, my friend who got into Converge really likes them and they are pretty much a prime example of the modern metalcore thing done correctly. Just show him Axe to Fall first, seems to be the most impressive to people that aren't aware metalcore doesn't always sound like AILD/ABR.

duno bout that

Bout what Dry?

Mr. Dry

You're so difficult dude haha. Whenever it seems like you actually commented about an album, it's super vague and then you refuse to expand on anything. Good job, Mr. Dry.

I've had him in my car with Axe to Fall playing the entire time, going through the entire album. Only comment I ever got was him thinking that I changed the CD when "Cruel Bloom" came on. However, he did like some of the breakdowns. Main issue is the vocals, like it is for most everyone.

you srsly just made my day right now :33

I love Bannon's vocals, but I can understand them being off-putting. My friend was like "holy shit, I can't even comprehend whats going on right now." Which he said after Axe to Fall through Effigy finished playing. And understandable reaction for someone hearing Converge for the first time haha.
And you're welcome Dryden, glad I could help.

It just sounds like noise and agonizing screaming to Converge virgins. It takes a long while before you can fully digest it. But once you can start actually hearing the guitar riffs, have a vague idea of what Jacob is saying, realize how amazing the drumming is, how much meat Nate adds to the music, and really feeling the overall energy and emotion, you fall in love.

CONVERGINS!!
Seriously. Takes forever to realize how impressive the drumming is. And the guitar sounds like TV static the first few songs you hear, but Axe def has the cleanest production, which is why I say start there.

I need to buy You Fail Me and see if that works better. It's probably the next most accessible, especially since Last Light starts off easy before inching closer and closer to real Converge. It's like a warm up.
Concubine is the exact opposite haha.
|
| |
But if you can actually hear Concubine/Fault and Fracture on the first listen, you'll pretty much never be able to go back to the way if was before that haha. I remember the first time this album really, really clicked with me, and it was like jaw-on-the-floor amazing.

I wish they would play Fault and Fracture after they play Concubine every time. The Saddest Day is another amazing one, but harder to get through at first.

I always imagine Dryden looking exactly like his profile picture in real life

The Saddest Day is too long to be a good introduction. I've never seen Converge :c they just played SF last week, but I was working... But yeah, Concubine pretty much needs Fault and Fracture I think.
Edit: Me too Eno, me too...
