i think at the end of the day, the beatles were always the beatles through all their stylistic shifts, and most of it ended up tying back to one or two primary genres in the end no matter how much they changed

colton said something about ulver's diversity and i can't really speak too educatedly on it as i've only heard 2 of their albums, one from their BM days and one from their electronic days, but ya I think that does count as a radical transformation actually from the limited knowledge i have. i think Radiohead actually had a bigger immediate shift that I could notice, from their britpop roots to toying with a lot of ambient sounds to, probably the album i have the most disconnect with (a moon shaped pool) being pretty much artsy ambient pop as far as I remembered it having

white album is probably the most out there beatles album for sure, i think the reason it didn't click for me is the same reason 99% of double albums don't really click for me - it felt like it was spreading them so thin because of the filler tracks, and i cannot call an album 5 stars if like 30% of the tracklist feels inessential. 5 stars equals no filler/skips to me.

hey, if someone responds to me, i respond back, that's the courteous thing to do to not be an asshole that ignores people lol @Futures

my ultimate point is that they never stopped being a Pop Rock band, which is fine, i just don't get why people were trying to tell me early Beatles SUCKED compared to their best work, it was all some degree of solid

ok so venin feels deceived after the revelation that The Beatles were in fact still The Beatles (in the most literal sense) in their later career.... sure. i don't know where you got the notion that they were literally unrecognizable later on, but their career was still marked by an impressive and rapid shift in sound that was unprecedented at the time and still pretty remarkable for any band at any time. nobody is claiming that it's literally the most radical transformation in the history of music

i don't like to ignore people. it makes me feel like a dick or a coward running from what people are saying to me.

@Colton: oh for the TIME it must've been mind blowing, I can see that and I definitely can't think of another 60's band that did all that off the top of my head, I think it's just looking back from a modern lens makes it feel a lot more muted than other transformations I've seen

venin your life is revolved around what other people think of you. seriously take a step back a reevaluate and i mean this in the nicest possible way.

i think it's generally a generational divide thing that causes the beatles to not click with some younger people compared to older people, and i'm part of the divide, the more I read into their story the more I respect what it was at the time while not necessarily viewing it the same way through today's eyes

the strongest anti-Beatles sentiment tends to stem from contrarianism more than anything. I would imagine that urge was even stronger back in the day

It's quite hard to break free from that (what other people think of you) though, I speak from experience. One seeks validation from others, because one did not get or did not get enough validation from one's parents and/or family members. The solution for me was/is therapy.

it's something i'm actively aware of and focusing on working through. it doesn't really help that some people are obsessed with hyper-critique to the point where someone will still hate you enough to make a thread of everything you've done wrong if they see even one misfire take, but that's probably less likely the more I disconnect from most major social media - although I got added to an "AI Dipshits" moderation list on Bluesky even though I said zero things about AI on the site which was weird

i will accept the beatles being a pop/rock band

i will not accept the beatles being a pop rock band. they have plenty of material that does not fit into pop rock and was decidely uncommercial

(and there is no contradiction between making money and releasing uncommercial material before anyone goes down that lazy route)
