have observed fairly consistent bitterness directed at this band on sput in the last month or so, respectfully checking in here to ask if there's anything else this is being based off of aside from the dude's comment in that one interview? feel like it's being blown out of proportion a bit, and don't really get it. could anyone clarify?

And yeah it’s basically just the interview, they do sound rather pretentious but they’re also certainly not alone amongst artists in that and you cannot deny their talent.
It’s not like we all collectively started taking a retrospective approach by shitting on this + Starspawn due to this ‘issue’.

And I mean, I agree that it doesn't have to be a prerequisite towards that or anything, so I wouldn't disagree, but there's more than just one 'cause' to things as well.
I would say I don't think they're doing anything groundbreaking at all, especially in the field of adding ambient to death metal music, but if I were to say that they'd just call me a fucking hater who is too close-minded to appreciate nuance when it all just seems like one big clout-chasing kick.

thanks assemblage, i'll check out that video soon! i'd be curious about the other causes you speak of. definitely seems like folks focus in on the band merely being pretentious as a negative trait--in the absence of other 'shocking' examples (which you may have just provided one so thank you) i can only assume it's something to do with how these guys are at the top of the dm scene right now relatively speaking, so it's like, easier to hate if that makes sense
like, i read an interview with the frontman for Shining (swe) the other week and wow that might be the most pretentious thing i've ever read in my life, but I ain't bouncing round and round in an album thread of theirs expressing my frustration, and neither is anyone else. stuff like that interview w/ blood incantation usually has the life span of one or two news cycles (example: damon albarn's social media snafu re taylor swift 'not writing her own music') so it just makes me raise an eyebrow in the context of the hivemind here
