contrarian is someone who disagrees with others for the sake of disagree with it. hence, not at all the same as not agreeing with some because you legitimately disagree with them on numerous fronts.

in the event they are the same thing (based on how you define contrarian). then that would mean that being contrarian isn't or doesn't have to be a bad thing, at least no worse than being someone who agrees with everyone.

not inherently but there comes a point where it becomes increasingly likely you're just doing it for the sake of it

idk man, you say "oh this dude but he 2s everything" and im like yeah you know thats the point, just cuz hes seemingly an outlier doesnt make it any less laughable (and pitiful in reality), in fact he is the purest most distilled example of what i am talking about *regardless* of why he does it or why he claims he does it or how meta and 50 levels too deep for u it might be, it's still funny and sad at the same time that someone would go to these lengths to be contrarian

u gotta remember on this site there's like 50 people who make up 90% of the discussions, so a handful is enough to be noticeable

Don't get me wrong pop music is fun (for the first handful of listens) I mean i'd rather crank the top 40 at a loose house party than depressive suicidal black metal but like i said as an artform I really don't value alot of it. There are some gems tho I fkn love Tinashe, Flume and this isn't bad like parks said its pretty fruitless to argue about it.



P.S I think i may owe that little bald bastard an apology, i was referring to his music which i frankly cant stomach, the man may be a saint for all I know (doubt it tho)

but as far as this pop elitism goes that you were describing just pages ago? i cant think of one name. the only people who outlie all their ratings to any extreme levels are sach, torts, and academy but sach feels like an exception because of their insane selection, academy is a reverse contrarian so theyre cool, and torts is... torts.

people on a more minor level are people like pots and cyg, but pots has enough ratings in obscurity where I can trust what theyre saying (for the most part) and cyg isnt as exclusive to overpraising pop music in the slightest.

this is why im just really confused because I cant think of anyone youre describing at all.

actually yeah why is this such a small community despite being one of the major music reviewing/discussion websites?

too many users who are generally just rude in attitude sour people out from joining in on discussion because they feel too distanced. this website has quite a crazy presence as far as viewership/ratings go, but discussion is exclusive to about 40+ users.
