Also, Chuck has the best lyrics, most DM are too focused on boring gore-related stuff. And it's great that you can clearly understand them, not that that it is dealbreaker if i can can't understand what is growled

Cynic is great from what i listened to, but they are not exactly a true DM band imo. They feel like the forefathers to The Contortionist with a clear DM part, but not true and blue because the jazz fusion is very prominient imo.
Atheist feels like the most similar to Death based on a glance, so maybe i'll try that

Focus is def a dm album but they pretty much dropped the dm influence after that. I think you’d def dig Atheist’s first 2 albums.

Hard agree. My favorite Death record so far, Symbolic and TSOP remain to be listened to next, but TSOP won't have much of a chance to rank high for me. The super high pitched shrieks on the singles i heard felt really out of place
