Larkin I only listened to Emperor once and it didn't grab me, but I was a bit distracted. Might give it another shot at some point.

Damm some harsh opinions on this. Definitely not Crack the Skye or Leviathan level but still a nice album imo.

I mean their first four albums are basically perfect imo. This one bores the living shit out of me.

Art definitely give it another shot man. It’s really fucking good. The best mix of old and new Mastodon IMO. Experimental side/proggy side/Metal side/mainstream side. It’s all evenly mixed.

I don't even know why I like this album so much. Every song is fun and doesn't overstay its welcome.

I like it quite a bit. It is definitely their most entertaining album to listen to. That said, it’s a bit slight compared to their other stuff. And it’s a bit of a mess and all over the place. But that’s where the fun comes in! So it’s cool. I know they intentionally went in to making this album with the idea to play loose, have fun and not go by any rules. After making three heavy, extensive, technically perfect concept albums, they needed something of a break.

It's kind of why I also dig OMATS so much. On both these albums they sound like they're just having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. That really clicks with me for some reason, even though their best album CTS was deadly serious.

Fun is exactly what they wanted to have while recording this one or at least so it shows.

The praise for this confuses me as much as the album cover

It really is a fun album. Good word choice from the folks above. Easy listening and, as a whole, the album rules. Individually I can easily skip some songs. Stargasm is top 3 Mastodon for me though, shit is delicious

Stargasm rules yeah. Honestly the first 4 or 5 tracks here make a pretty flawless opening run.

That line always reminds me of the theme for that Mel Gibson Vietnam war movie We Were Soldiers.
