hearing this after being a huge metalcore guy first was such a revelation lol. literally all these riffs got repackaged and ripped off 1000x over.

Yeah I had to re-5 it hard. I always come back to it and it had a strong impact on my music journey as a whole tbh.

hell yeah. wish i heard it earlier before all the core haha. and i appreciate that it's so tight, not a wasted second here. also def points for how much this inspired. the blueprint for so much great metalcore. you can trace so much back to this album.

This is probably my definitive album in terms of appreciating it more for its influence than actually liking the material itself. Albums like Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation and The Whispered Lies of Angels do what SOTS does much better.

Idk if he's necessarily even insinuating that they didn't rip from this
Just that they're improvements on a form
Idk if I quite agree but I've jammed too little of those albums to make a good honest statement

sure but for me at least hearing this and then hearing darkest hour it's hard to separate that. darkest hour is some of the most pure sots worship core down to the raw throat shredy vocals. it just makes me want to listen to this even if darkest hour rule.

Ehh I've never really had trouble separating the SOTS influence from most albums that have them. I've certainly acknowledged the influence but I've never really listened to any albums and thought nothing but it. I also usually like to observe and see what little things some bands might do differently.

I wouldn't really think about it too hard lol. Dedes just about nails my opinion on this in that I think SOTS is... fine, for the most part, but a lot of albums influenced by it just happened to improve on it imo.
Of course, on the other hand, there is plenty of stuff that more shamelessly rips this off and yeah, at that point it's a lot harder to differentiate from it, but for the most part, I've found the stuff that subtly has different ideas a lot more neat. That's about it, really.
