'this is still amazing'

'iconic and unmistakable and unrepeated, with no concessions made in regards to the passion and anger regardless of any perceived commerciality

having listened to this for my entire life up till now i can confidently say that it hasn't lost its appeal and most people have just lost track of its merits in the midst of their own musical growth

at least that's what it is to me'

You da real mvp.

'tldr this album has been heard by everybody, and that is all it needs to justify itself'

little bit dogmatic considering the subjective nature of music.

Are you suggesting that the album can be considered classic because it was universally popular just as it was intended to be? Because it was an unequivocal musical/cultural phenomenon? I'm not denying that I'm just saying that context needn't have to be part of ones criteria for valuating an albums worth, plus how that translates to value will differ user to user anyway.

Realistically there's no reason my rating should be worth any less than say Zaks rating , even though I wasn't even In Utero when this was released. I'd even go so far as to say that unless you share similar musical penchants with another user, there's really no reason that their ratings should be worth anything to you, might as well just be arbitrary numbers. Its 6am and I'm falling asleep as I'm wrtting this but hopefully its still lucid enough to get my point across ..

all the truly greats established precedent and spearheaded a movement. sometimes it gave the finger to whatever preceded it, and most often those bands & artists did so without planning it; on rare occassions the time was right and said movements magnetised an entire generation=classic stuff. In 1991 the time was perfect

yea undeniably if ars isnt looking for what im looking for, hes gonna use a different process to get there, but i try and have a grounded approach to things and i am as much voicing my opinion to myself as i am to ars here haha, if i come across as thinking im infallible or something thats just the translation of the internet, but i do believe there are times to consider the crowd, and times to ignore the crowd, moderation in all things.

I get so back and forth between this album so much. No matter how I slice it, it's so front loaded and the second side can end up sounding less interesting because of that. Sometimes I really enjoy it and other times the tracklisting can get meh

Something in the Way is aging very badly for me too

All the songs on the album either feel like an album opener or closer haphazardly thrown together

Think I finally figured out a tracklisting I like for this. Excluding Endless, Nameless this would be the shortest Nirvana album at around 38 minutes (give or take). Took out about 6 songs that I didn't like or ended up not flowing well with the b-sides I included

Sure didn't expect Teen Spirit at number 1 lol. Hard to nail this one down to just a top 3 but In Bloom would probably be there for me.

'Smells' just has to be number 1, I know it's overplayed and I probably prefer Lounge Act nowadays but...it's got to be 1. Matter of respect lol
