I'm not being a fanboy. The Stage was pretty poor. A7X's decline is worse than Metallica's.

At least Metallica never made a 1/5 album like A7X's self-titled

On my first listen through now, some songs are weak but overall I'm really digging through Hardwired. I probably like Death Magnetic more than my rating suggests too

A7X's self titled is better than 3 or 4 Metallica albums and we all know which ones they are

A7X didn't have very far to fall. Admit that's being a bit objective, but then so was your statement.

Metallica's low point is much lower than A7X's, I don't think it's a contest really. You have:

St. Anger +/- 5 years vs. A7X's self titled. But then again, the bigger they come the harder they fall.

Metallica's low points are so fucking impressively low that I almost feel like giving them credit for how horrible they can actually be. St. Anger and Lulu were both legendary in how bad they were. But then they have Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightening which are some of my favorite thrash metal albums ever.

On second listen now, new album is good but I'm probably not going to listen to it too much in like a few months.

Yeah, my brother hasn't listened to it yet - he just texted me asking which one is better. I dunno, I'm on my third listen and it's hard to tell for me. Hardwired has some songs that are way weaker than Death Magnetic, but then it has shit like Spit Out The Bone

the more I listen to Hardwired, the more I think it's better than this one. the songwriting feels more focused, and even if the album is mostly mid-tempo, I honestly think they haven't m/ this hard for the last 25 years.

I'm with Spirit on this. Hardwired sounds more focused and varied. Its also the best thing they've released in recent years. For all of its flaws(production, Lars, Kirk) it still does pretty good for itself. Plus James sounds incredible on it.

We gotta talk about how annoying Lars and Kirk are though, cause they have been phoning it in for years.

I'm not as annoyed by Kirk as you, though.
