That is generational incompetence lol.
Admittedly, this year has been incredibly busy for me and I haven't watched nearly as much NFL as I typically do, I really only have enough time to focus on the Titans. Has the Steelers' struggles been entirely on Canada? Feel like Pickett was supposed to have a leap and it just isn't happening.

no kenny has been trash and i think i'm officially out on him
the flashes from last year are just nowhere to be found. he seems to barely trust what he's looking at even when receivers do get open, constantly throwing late and behind people, or just completely bailing on plays as soon as he feels pressure or his first read being covered. he sees ghosts. we have a decent group of skill position players (even with diontae johnson out) and a passable oline. his supporting cast is not the problem
on the flip side... cj stroud played yesterday with four backup offensive lineman and a collection of weapons inferior to what the steelers have almost across the board... against a far better defense... and looked like the second coming of drew brees.
seeing stroud and pickett play at the same time really highlighted to me how not-good pickett really is. if there was anything there we'd be seeing it at this point even despite canada. allen, herbert, and tua all started their careers with terrible playcallers and all looked way better by this point than kenny ever. has hell even zach wilson last night played a better game than kenny ever has and he has nathanial hackett calling his plays. he doesn't even have the "phyiscal tools" excuse that justin fields has. its as easy as ever to play qb in the nfl and we have a qb who can't even average 5/ya.

Canada is an awful OC. dude draws up the most vanilla shit possible and 90% of his pass plays don’t go beyond 5 yds. extremely ineffective dink n dunk offense. it’s like he schemed for Ben’s declining physical abilities then just forgot to change the schema once Pickett came in. at the same time Pickett seems to have completely regressed. dude looks so lost out there. granted i rly don’t know what the Steelers saw in him at all. felt more like the Steelers neglected the position while Ben was in decline then found themselves in a pickle. either way the blessing and the curse of the Steelers org is they will ride this situation until the wheels completely fall off

the saddest part is we were an elite rushing offense the second half of last year (which i think is largely why canada kept his job), and we've even seen glimpses of it the past two weeks... but opposing defenses just have so little respect for our passing game that they crowd the box to the point where even that has effectively been shut down.
defense is above criticism for the time being, we are 2-2 and not 0-4 solely because of them and quite honestly i think stroud might just be that good. done talking about this team until at least halloween

Yeah the Steelers' adherence to loyalty above all else is such an Achilles Heel. There are calls for Bill to be held accountable in New England, even to the point of him needing to retire/be fired, and Tomlin is still coasting off of a SB over a decade ago and a lackluster playoff resume since then. At what point do fans not get tired?
Yes, the .500 record thing, but to me, the guy has been stagnating for years now. He and Pittsburgh both need a change.

not gonna lie that thought crossed my mind after seeing the cowboys/pats score. belichick and tomlin are the two longest tenured coaches in the league as well as two of the most old school. both teams have borderline-elite defenses and heavily emphasize running the ball (even when its clearly not working), and not in the creative ways shanahan or mcdaniel run the ball. and both drafted high floor(?)/low ceiling(!) non-athletic qbs specifically put in place to just not fuck it up.
this team building philosophy might have worked for them 15 years ago, but not today. at least if you want to be better than mediocre. the league is hardly even recognizable from the last time either of them fielded elite teams five years ago.
other old school non-offensive guys like carroll, harbaugh, and even rivera have done a much better job at adapting to this newer iteration football. not like its impossible. i simply think belichick just doesn't care anymore, but tomlin? whoever the next oc is will be his last if he doesn't get it right.

it’s impressive for sure but mediocrity is the worst place to be in the NFL. too bad to contend for a title yet too good to draft the elite prospects. sometimes you just gotta go separate ways. critiques aside i do think Pickett deserves a year under a different OC at least

Yeah I have nothing against Tomlin, I just criticize him and the Steelers org a lot because the double standards are maddening to an extent. Like, they've had some great regular seasons that have always ended in playoff humiliation, or have gotten the doors blown off them while barely limping into the post-season. That's the kind of stuff Green Bay would get roasted for or Dallas, but Tomlin gets a pass because "muh .500 record." Unlike McCarthy or Carroll, he really hasn't had a second wind either; the former has regularly fielded better teams these past few years, and the latter essentially did a flash-rebuild with a supposed joruneyman and is now in the division race.
I still believe Tomlin is a good coach. I compare his situation a lot to Reid in Philly; both involved parties just need to move on. When that happened, the Eagles got a ring and Reid kickstarted the latest NFL dynasty (or at least the closest equivalent to one). I think he would've been great for Denver compared to Payton.

You cold argue the 2020 Steelers was a "good" team, but the last few games of that season + the embarrassment versus the Browns basically proved that team was basically a mirage.

ngl i completely forgot about the 2020 season when i typed that and i'm gonna go about the rest of my day pretending i didn't just get reminded of it

"The Browns is the Browns"
The ultimate irony being that that statement ended up being very true in the end lmao, just not in the way any of us anticipated.
Fuck Watson.

Dude every time we play the Bengals, I'm reminded of that 2021 playoff loss. Short of a SB ring, I will never get over that.
We beat the Bengals, we face a KC team that we spanked earlier in the year, and in the Tanny + Vrabel era, we've always matched up well against them. Then we face the Rams in the championship, who we also stomped in the regular season.
That was our fucking year...

I got nothing against the Rams, everything against the Bengals fans that were harassing our fanbase after the game and have been far too big for their britches once they finally had a decent team. And everything against Tanny for tossing that game away.
Also, I don't know if I mentioned it, but I don't like doing power rankings until around week 8/9. That's when the picture becomes a lot clearer. Although I might not do them this year, I've hardly watched anything beyond my Titans, life's just too busy for me to focus on games anymore.

very much been feeling this too, just have zero motivation to watch anything but the steelers right now (lol) unless its like a marquee matchup like niners/cowboys next week. i've always loved watching as much games as possible and prided myself on knowing as much as i could about all 32 teams but since graduating college i just don't see the point anymore. i even watched/studied steelers all-22s last year, and i did the first quarter of week 1 this year and was just like nobody is paying me to do this and i have nobody to even talk about this stuff with really lol fuck this shit.

Alright gentlemen. Walking into week 5, predictions and commentary welcome
|

two massive games tomorrow with jags/bills and cowboys/niners... colts/titans and eagles/rams also pretty spicy
the steelers should get plowed tomorrow but its also steelers/ravens so its destined to be a 3 point game somehow

ravens steelers is coming down to a fg idc what anyone says. those matchups are rarely lopsided and tbh lamar has struggled vs the steelers cuz of the pass rush. ofc i’d love to be wrong but i expect a slog of a game
