Oh huh, guess I've not heard THE TOP. Sounds like it is not worth my time.

The Top is underrated

New one is good. Gotta let it sink in for a bit, but it reminds me a fair bit of Disintegration in style and quality

Nope, impossible. Musically it’s been spectacular.

Look at me comments on page 113 demo.
9 albums all amazing. For a year it’s only gone and beaten 1997 for me!

Jeeeeesus the ratings on the new one are good, is it really that great? I'm waiting for the right moment to spin it.

I have to doubt the legitimacy of any list when it contains The Smile, Jack White and D.C. Fontaines as standard-bearers (even if I do love Beth!)
don't get me wrong there's been some mining for gold this year (like any), but I haven't really dug deep enough (or in the right places?) to have found what much of what I'm looking for
I guess that was always likely when half-arsing this whole new release thing. I just didn't feel like checking out as much this year

I really dont get The Smile and im a huge Radiohead guy. D.C Fontaines was good enough tho. But Blood Incantation, State Faults, Alora Crucible, Crippling Depression,Frail Body, DVNE etc has made this year super good at least for me. And ofc more
But back to what i was about to say; dont doubt the legitimacy of the new Cure record. It is legit.

better list
Nina Sinephro, Beth, Lenker, Scarcity, SUMAC, possibly Uboa, Rekondite, Skee Mask and (yeah) Crippling Alcoholism would be my picks at the minute. Geordie Greep is pretty good too, but don’t think it’ll be competing at the top

Continuing with Zak and Demon's chat:
This year has been great, I think a lot of albums have come out where usually I'd make a push to listen to them enough and embrace them enough to become album of the year (Geordie Greep, Fontaines DC, MJ Lenderman) but this year they've got a fight on to remain top 10!
Seriously any of those three albums would have topped either 2020 or 2021 for me, that's how weak the pandemic period was. Insane stuff.
Think it'll be a duke out between the grumpy goth shades of either The Cure or Crippling Alcoholism...I do think the Bonny Light Horseman is Fleetwood Mac/Big Thief good though.
Very respectable albums by real favourites like Tindersticks, The The, Nick Cave, Arab Strap and Adrienne Lenker certainly won't make my top 10 at this point which if you'd written that down in January I'd never have believed it.

There’s been the gravitas with the Cure
The soul stirring with Beth
The bangers with Jamie xx and the freshness of the Fontaines D.C
He’s there been an anchoring connection the likes of which haven’t been felt since OKC, no there never will be but fuck me the Cures one comes ridiculously close.
Geordie can do one

'Geordie can do one'
He's one to watch, he's massively preferable to the splurge of cookie cutter landfill post-punk out there. It might take three divorces and the first grey hairs for him to get to where you want him to go :D

The closer on the new album is just unbelievably great, one of their best songs
