Heritage & ICV have that Opeth personality and I prefer them to some of their earlier records (inc Damnation) but the ‘other two’ in their rock quartet don’t cut the mustard imo
Harlequin Forest is bland as hell tho let’s be honest here, plenty of other prog bands have done the drawn out ‘atmospheric’ jam better

Big, definite [2]
Although Pale Communion has been coming closer to ICV over the last couple of weeks. Finally. That album never clicked for me as strongly as it did just now.

I was exaggerating but yeah, plenty of other slow soft prog jams I’d rather listen to. GR is a few bangers with a bunch of padding. Watershed mixed it up with some ‘weirdness’ / perhaps did it better

Jammed all of Hertiage-Pale Communion-Sorceress-In Cauda Venenum back to back just now.
Considerations:
Heritage is perfect and adventurous and alive and one of their best ever and I love it dearly.
Pale Communion is growing on me still, really love it now, mid-discog placement.
Sorceress is their worst record and contains some of their worst songs, yet it's still ok.
In Cauda Venenum is simply brimming with energy and glittery fun and colour, love love love it.
Curious where Testament is going to go in the grand scheme of things.

I agree with you in relation to Pale Communion and In Cauda Venenum. Both are brilliant works, especially the last one. I also agree that Sorceress is less good than Heritage. But i don't have a so great opinion in relation to Heritage. Maybe because it was released after Watershed, an album I love.
So, since I don't check Heritage for many years, I think I need to check it again a see it in a different perspective.

I’ll take Sorceress over Heritage and Damnation with relative ease

No. Damnation is better for me.

I will admit that i don't like how they released Deliverance / Damnation. I think I would appreciate Damnation much more if the songs were mixed in with Deliverance.

'Yeah, the acoustic work at the end of Continuum is absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention the mellotron that creeps in afterwards... goosebumps'
song is all sorts of incredible - yes, the acoustic work is gorgeous but so are Mikael's vocals, but you're correct with the mello bringing the goosebumps

For sure one of the album highlights, and band highlights of the past 15 years.

Wow so weird to hear the English version all of a sudden! Haha. Have only ever been listening to the Swedish one, super weird to hear the lyrics.
Such a super good album though.
EDIT: Switched to Swedish again oh no, that English version is way less interesting rhythmically I feel. The metrum works better in Swedish.

I agree with you Trifolium. As strange as it may seems, especially because I don't understand Swedish, I also prefer the Swedish version. And I already read other comments saying the same.

Yeah agreed! I think he should use Swedish more often. It works really well. And I don't speak any Swedish either haha!
Do you care for lyrics in general? I really don't very often pay attention to them. I mean, with a love for (minimal) techno and (mostly) instrumental jazz that was to be expected maybe. Oh and unintelligible screams in metal of course.
Sometimes lyrics can be really cool/I can enjoy them a lot. For instance in some more theatrical pop music (Kate Bush, An Pierlé, etc.).

Generally, no. But in some cases, yes, like rock operas, (Ayreon for instance), concept albums or great lyricists like Peter Hammill, I do care.
