Listen to Nation of Ulysses first and realise how much of a blatant rip off this is.

I don't like this album, there's a very disproportionate build to payoff ratio. Take Liberation Frequency. It's sort of purposely weak
and flimsy sounding to contrast with the really heavy part. But the hardcore punching makes up like 40 seconds of a song that's over
four minutes, and the "weak" part makes up the fast majority of the song. Wtf.
I mean it's not like some punk lands where the quiet parts are interesting, the quiet build up parts are rather bland, like new noise
with the same 3 notes being repeated for over a minute. Their only good because of the anticipation of the awesomeness that's to
come. It's like dub step where most of it is bland uninspired filler in preparation for the intense part.
And believe me i'm all for builds if what's going on during the build is interesting, but most of the time it's just a couple of ascending
notes to provide tension.

Also something i've noticed is that New Noise was different on the EP version compared to the album version. I like the guitar noise on the EP version better. Just compare the initial loud part of the album version to the EP version, it's different.
|
| |
The EP version is better, why the hell did they re-record it, nothing is different except for subtle things that make it worse.
|
| |
Or maybe i'm wrong? IDK but there's some weird version of New Noise on The Shape of Punk To Come album on spottily that I don't know where it came from. There's the EP completion one and then the one on the album and it sounds weird on the album. :/

"You know what i've realized about this album? It relies a lot on the production, rather than the song writing to make it good.
Take Sowing Season for example, if that song had equivalent loudness to say, a song on Nevermind, then the chorus wouldn't be
nearly as impactful. Imo this is because the song isn't impactful due to the quality of the melody and notes that are being played, but
just the loudness.
A lot of this album relies on production and loudness rather then talent and song writing, so it gets stale pretty fast. The production
on this takes "pretty good" songwriting and with sheer impact makes it seem amazing without actually being amazing."

this album is like close to being ingenious and awesome but then again it's really not.
