i liked his newest album for the most part, as bloated as it was with really forgettable songs Skrillex' production gave it quite a lot of energy. Also his Journals album wasnt that bad, but sounded really amateur because of the limited production values it concept had.

like idk if you guys payed attention to your own local music scenes
but everywhere i've checked, the local scenes are hot ass (lmao countless rappers rip off future).
mediocre band after mediocre band. i basically gave up tbh.
everyone on this site and rym is lucky because all of those mediocre bands get filter out, and we're much more likely to find exceptional examples of up-and-coming bands.

my state has no music scene in the slightest, sadly or thankfully I don't know.

yeah I just feel like pop music is more about commerce then music as an artform which is disheartening.
I know a fair few talented dudes in local metal bands who have been struggling for years to write music and gig while working a 9-5 and the truth is they're probably never going to be able to support themselves thru their music careers. Meanwhile a cancerous cunt like Pitbull is making 7 figures a year. Another injustice in the world i suppose.

damn, site connection shat the bed when i tried to submit my previous post and now the conversation's moved like a dozen posts and i don't feel strongly enough to re-type all of it
"by this standard, wouldn't those who don't prefer mainstream pop be the ones disagreeing with the majority and more likely to be full of shit?"
honestly this is more a talking point to whether or not there's any point in critiquing art. the obvious answer you would expect is for me to say that "yeah but the majority of people who are educated about music and don't just listen to the top 40s radio station actually know what they're talking about" or something like that, right? and then the obvious retort is, why should anyone be more qualified than anyone and etc. that's an interesting conversation to have but not something i feel strongly about either

see this is what gets me, there's such a wealth of awesome music of all kinds at our fingertips that wasn't as easy to discover when i was a wee lad, and instead of basking in its glory people just go all contrarian, 2 most of it and then 4.5 the one that already has 300 million views on youtube

not a fan of pitbull at all, but hes a good guy who seems to love his craft so I can't get too angry at him as a person. Sean Paul on the other hand...
But hey, theres a reason people advise against pursuing music careers. Its such a tight, suffocating industry over saturated with nobodies who are trying their damnedest to get noticed for their painfully average and stock music inspired by popular bands who are also stock and average. Its an impossible egg to crack without connections and insane luck.
Also I like to look at a lot of pop music as an art form in commerce, as... dumb as it sounds. Outside of it being fun it is really interesting to study the sound design and writing that goes into making it a hit. Granted, I usually dont pay mind to the awfully generic stuff since thats all it is at the end.

like y'all could do with more positivity and less being negative just for the sake of being negative, i guess is what my main message would be if i were to stop laughing for a second

i like that pitbull song on the radio thats like "i dont have enough money for rent but im blowing money in the club to try and forget about it"
really speaking to his audience no doubt

"2 most of it and then 4.5 the one that already has 300 million views on youtube"
again i have to ask who youre talking about tho, RYM despise pop music (and any album released after 2006) and Sputnik is still very focused on other genres and most of its users are still focused on those albums instead of being totes contrarian. are we just seeing different people?

of course you can argue that someone is being contrarian, and if you can prove it then by all means!
but disagreeing with an accepted opinion shouldn't automatically be presumed to be edgy or contrarian.

"but disagreeing with an accepted opinion shouldn't automatically be presumed to be edgy or contrarian."
disagreeing with the vast majority of accepted opinions at the same time should be and is. in fact that's more or less how you define contrarianism

i don't think there's anything inherently wrong with contrarianism tbh
