"It's a romantic way of thinking about what happened with Syd, and I am sure it true to an extent.

But judging from what I've read about his behavior towards the end and onwards, it doesn't sound like someone who was at peace and consciously decided to fade into obscurity.

He literally went crazy. And maybe "going crazy", or going through an extremely trying time mentally is just part of the process of reaching "Nirvana" or ultimate enlightenment, because going to that place is not anything like most people associate with their normal, cultured environment."

Let's be honest it's impossible to judge whether Syd was happy or not towards the end of his life. I like to think he was but I doubt there's anyone in the world who can definitively say he was or wasn't because he was so crazy at that point.

I wonder if he knew how crazy he became. Trapped inside a play of the psychotic mind. I'd like to think he wasn't as that sounds like a hellish existence. But I'm sure it's not how I'd imagine it.

I'm not really sure, it's possible that he thought he was acting perfectly normal

I'd say drugs were only a trigger for his deterioration, you can't end up like that without a serious chemical imbalance in your brain to start with.

He didn't know what he was thinking. Poor Sod. Mental illness is fucking terrible, the drug use definitely triggered something that lay dormant.

Yeah avon if I recall correctly he had latent schizophrenia or something and the drugs just triggered it off. He really, really did mongi.

He was a great singer and songwriter too but if he'd stayed in the band they would never had reached their full potential.

Lol yeah avon saves the day

If a Floyd thread gets depressing there usually aren't many lyrics you can quote to brighten it up because the lyrics are always depressing

Unless it's the Piper/Saucerful thread of course
