I knee-jerk ordered it when it was announced but thought better of it lol.

yeah i would be a lot more inclined to actually buy this stuff if they didn't dump all the demos and live recordings on streaming at the same time.
one of those things i'd be over the moon to receive as a gift but couldn't justify buying all on my own
i'd easily drop $70 on the book if it was possible to buy it on its own

looks like on the miscellaneous disc there's a soundcheck rehearsal of the house that jack built?
really cool that that exists seeing as they've never actually performed that song live. guess we'll find out why lmao

Man I think that's such a cool fuckin' song
Badly wish they'd return to this for their next album but it won't happen because old heads backlash was so bad and GenZ are brainwashed by their influence on YT and TikTok into thinking it's trash.

The Load era is really fascinating because of all the new kinds of music they were inspired by that wasnt even around when the band first formed. Interviews from the time period talk about how they were jamming bands like AIC, Soundgarden, Primus, and Kyuss, and how James become close friends with Waylon Jennings, and how Alanis Morrissete inspired “Hero of the Day”. But i think they pretty quickly burried their appreciation for that music when the backlash hit. I’d love to see them open up about it more
I agree this is probably the era they’d still be in if the criticism didnt matter. Load stuff is by far the best sounding stuff they play live, it is perfect for James’s voice and guitar tunings. Even in 2024, live performances of “king nothing” sound insanely good

yeah i remember them doing a lot of promo for the ajfa and black album boxsets which included them doing a lot of big retrospective interviews, whether they were self produced or even on howard stern. hoping for more of the same here.
really am quite shocked they did load entirely separate from reload. i guess that means there will be a reload boxset too??? might have to throw in some garage inc / s&m stuff to spice that one up + differentiate it from load's.
also begs the question... if they're doing a full on seperate reload box... does that mean they'll do a st. anger one down the line???

This is a load, alright.

Get a LOAD of this pile of shit

I'd say it's mostly gold with a few duds sprinkled in.

I just know they already planned to release Reload when they came up with this title. That makes this album guilty by association.

The two albums were written at the same time and originally planned to be a double album, so you're correct.
Load good. Reload also good. But Load got more of the good songs

LULU not ranked for obvious reasons (viz. it's as much a Lou Reed album as it is a Metallica album) but it'd be somewhere in the #3-5 range on this list.

Great Metallica albums: Kill Em All & Ride the Lightning
Good Metallica albums: Master of Puppets

Don’t say Metal Machine Music because that album rules.
