if I you'll all allow me to ask an unfair question that I can't physically resist asking
this guy's voice
how do you even stand it

Take Me Down is such an underrated track. And the only song where Billy doesn’t sing so the vox are actually amazing

I honestly never had a problem with his voice
It wasn't even a "had to get used to it" kinda voice
|

I love his song writing but wew I am definitely in the “had to get used to it” camp. There’s this constant whine to his voice.

Porcelina, Galapagos and Tonight Tonight would most likely be the three runner ups to my top 5.
Man, I pretty much hate 1979 now. Heard it WAAAAYYY too much. Goddamn, when that thing hit airwaves and MTV, it was on constant rotation. Way too much overexposure.
And I can’t remember for sure since it’s been so long, but I’m pretty sure I thought it was only alright even when the album came out.

Can we talk about Take Me Down tho? The atmosphere to that track makes it one of my favorite all time songs, not even just fav Smashing Pumpkins track. I think it’s truly beautiful.

James Iha's voice bores me a lot
Although his backups on stuff like Where Boys Fear to Tread and Bury Me are great

It’s definitely a very good song, but wouldn’t make my top 10 here tbh.

I still like Take Me Down though, but mostly for the music

Yeah, the vocal performance is lovely on that (and Billy is a trash vocalist - his vox sounded way better on Siamese Dream with that album's dirty, misanthropic tone)

I think it’s the most stunning musical performance on the album.

Waste that motherfucker who send the message to Fantano that the album is full of fillers.

There's definitely filler here (mostly on disk 2) but it's all in service of the concept so I'm ok with it. At least 80% of my enjoyment of this is from disk 1, I always treated disk 2 more like a bonus disk.

Where Boys, Arms of Sleep and 1979 are classic but other than that I largely agree with you
Beautiful and By Starlight are a little underrated and Bodies is I think a guilty pleasure as no one seems to rate it

I remember going to Tower Records at midnight on the night this was released. There had to be 100 people on line in front of me buying it as well, no exaggeration.
I don't hear any filler on here whatsoever, as the two discs make for a cohesive unit. If we were growing a little tired of one of the discs, we just listened to the other for a while. And it didn't get played out to quickly due to its length. Even the closers of each disc serve their purpose.
Funny how we all have different experiences with certain albums...
