that is kind of a good way to think about it. You aren't gonna get mathy stuff inspired from the likes of TDEP, and dissonance isn't a big player in the sound. There's a greater focus on "pretty" technical leads rather than a chugged riff bouncing off panic chords and shit like that. jam Impulse by Erra to get a good picture of what progcore is, doubt you'll like it based on your preferences but it's the best representation of what progcore was. They nailed the beautiful aggression the best out of any band imo

progcore to me is djenty chug riffs draped by (usually technical) melodic leads mixed with atmospheric stuff. think pads + synths and twinkly clean guitar. v groove oriented in the footsteps of meshuggah but the frenetic songwriting of metalcore

i don’t think melodic metalcore is too far off tbh but we decided in 2009 that if you had a 7 string and an axefx you were prog so that’s a lot of the delineation to me

I mean it was new and progressive in 2009, not so much in 2024. But uhh check the Solace LP if you haven’t. Karl from misery signals’ solo 8 string project. It falls within these very particular guidelines

"I mean it was new and progressive in 2009, not so much in 2024" yea that's what I was explaining in my first big post really, progcore lost the sauce it had.

Also dang did Solace actually release something new?? That's sick I gotta hop on that. I'm catching mis sigs farewell tour next month I hope I can talk to karl a bit lol

Edit: oh unless you just mean the 2012 album lol yea that album rules

big [2] on progcore being more based in conventional tonality and prettiness rather than dissonance which tbh is part of why i like it so much lol

we must protect these good boys at all costs, now that's a band who fully appreciates and immerses themselves in a performance, fucking flawless

Saw these guys with Northlane last night. Can confirm beyond reasonable doubt that this band is not for me.
