“ Very high highs” warrants higher than a 2 in my rating system

“Magnolia” is somewhere around 3.4/5

Arguably the heaviest Deafheaven track from start to finish. Thrashy and devoid of melody. I’m expecting mixed reactions. Personally wish it was a little more cathartic… hoping they chose this as the first single to please those who weren’t as impressed with Infinite Granite

I can’t find it… it’s heavier than Black Brick? If so fuckin A, just what I wanted from these guys.

That's fair I guess. I only really liked the two singles, and maybe the end of lament for wasps or whatever it's called. Trying to listening to this album front to back is boring because everything sounds like a big blurry forgettable cloud.

New track is insane, albeit a little short. Kinda expected the track to enter a cathartic outro but still good.

We really getting an entire LP of Black Brick huh? Absolute madlads.

Magnolia owns, Kerry's on his A game as far as riffage goes. Cannot wait for the album!

Magnolia is fucking brilliant. Full on shoegaze excursion was a fun little sidestep but i'm glad the black brick is finally brought to the water again, good shit

Couple listens in and this is giving me huge From the Kettle Unto the Coil vibes. Absolutely loving it, mix is phenomenal too. We are so back boys

Agreed about it being too short, but feel like it's gonna make a lot more sense in context. 12 songs on the new one, LFG!

I'm perfectly fine with a tightly constructed 4 minute song. Riffs feel fresh and don't overstay their welcome. And if that drummer is really dealing with carpal tunnel, I'm sure he's happy as fuck to trim a minute or 3 off these sorts of songs. It requires a lot.

man, that new track’s a ripper, Kerry’s killing it

agreed on the mix Jay—love how punchy it comes through

I’d be honest if I didn’t wish it was a bit longer (love how everything opens up at the 3 minute mark) but wild to get an album of 3-5 minute songs from these guys

merry Deafheaven season to all who observe

Magnolia was great. I am hoping they dont fully drop the shoegaze. Would love a track or two on the new one at least integrating some of its aspects.

new song is garbo

sounds like a bunch of friends decided to play music together without learning any of the cool shit, went to hang out for a rando jam sesh in a garage, and put a slight black metal spin on the production

the guitar parts in particular are fucking atrocious 🤮🤮🤮

something went horribly wrong after new bermuda and they haven't been able to figure it out, like at all
